Calling All Twihards

The countdown is on for opening night of New Moon (LA premier in T-minus four days people!), but frankly I’m a bit concerned about the sanity of the general population as a result of all this hype. I like Twilight as much as the next girl— alright, maybe even a little bit more than the next girl—but I am having a hard time wrapping my head around the slew of “Twilight inspired” products on the market and the erratic behaviour that is stemming from them. See what I’m talking about after the jump.

Putting the pimping of the Twilight Volvos and a supposed range of sex toys aside, there is an abundance of fashion and beauty companies doing their best to cash in on the vampire craze. I love Nordstrom, it’s my favourite department store, but to their line of Twilight clothing (essentially, tween casual wear with gothic handwriting that will have gaggles of girls sporting Bella’s lack luster style) I say shame on you! An even bigger shame, however, goes to the cougar aged prowlers that keep swiping the life-sized cutouts of R. Pattz and Taylor Lautner used in the displays. Creepy ladies, just plain creepy; not to mention shoplifting is illegal. Apparently the obscene behaviour has now inspired Nordstrom to start selling the cutouts for $33 USD each (and yes, they do ship to Canada) Like I said, I'm concerned.

And then we have cosmetic company, DuWop’s, crack at the cash cow in the form of Twilight beauty. The company is best known for their Lip Venom, so it’s not really surprising they went down this road. However, adding the word Twilight and a red tint does not warrant a new product in my books. Instead of buying a blush and eye shadow palette named after your favourite female character, wouldn’t it be more fun to create a look inspired by that character with regular makeup? There is a fine line between inspiration and imitation and when you’re walking around with the word Twilight on your clothes or your makeup case, or have spent money on a piece of fine jewelry with fangs on it, I think the line has been crossed.

Update: For those of you that totally disagree with me, you might like to know that if you place an order of $50 or more on twilightbeauty.com between Friday, Nov. 20 (opening day of New Moon) and Sunday, Nov. 22 you will receive a free commemorative New Moon Lip Venom....Twihards rejoice!

Tell me what you think: Has Twilight mania gone too far? Are these products worth the money?Have you bought any Twilight merch yourself?  Would a little eyeliner or a dark lip stain be a better way to show your appreciation to the Cullen clan? How bout those cutout swiping women—appalling or appealing behaviour?
