New Looks For The Ladies Of New Moon
Last night marked the official North American premiere of the second installment of the Twilight saga, New Moon. It was a star-studded evening in L.A. filled with hits and misses on the red carpet. When it comes to the fashion choices of three of film’s leading ladies, one of them nailed it, one of them wins the most improved prize and one of them, well, she will have another chance at the Eclipse premiere. Judge for yourself after the jump.
Ah, the lady of the hour. I have to say, I was a bit nervous last week as the pictures of the Twi trinity (aka Taylor, Kristen and Rob) on their international press tour came out and KStew was wearing some questionable items. I don’t know about you guys, but I wasn’t a huge fan of the peek-a-boo panty Balenciaga ensemble. I’m all for Kristen showing some skin, but she’s got to have the self assurance to pull it off—if she stopped slouching and fidgeting maybe she could get away with it. I could finally breath a sigh of relieve when I saw her hit the carpet last night in classic Oscar de la Renta. While I am not a huge fan of the floor length on her, I appreciate her putting in some effort, and the detailing and fit are stunning. Her makeup is flawless and reminiscent of her MTV VMA look from a few months back (find out how to get that look here), but thank goodness they found a way of dealing with that half grown out mullet of hers this time around! A simple pair of earrings could have drawn more attention to her face (she opted for a couple bangles), but it’s not too often that we see Stewart looking this genuinely happy and as a result, she looks beautiful.
My Verdict: A little bit high-end high school prom, but considering her normal attire, this is a big improvement.
Wow, I never thought I would say this, but my best-dressed nod has to go to the young Dakota Fanning. This girl has grown up right in front of us and apparently she developed a sense of style somewhere along the way! It’s not surprising that I love this dress, knowing my penchant for all things black lace, but this is black lace in a sweet, age appropriate style—I hope Taylor Momsen is taking notes. I do take a bit of an issue with Fanning’s shoe choice, however. While I would certainly appreciate this pair on a sexpot like Eva Mendes or even Elizabeth Reaser (that Esme is saucy!) on Dakota they are too much. The obscenely high platform just makes her look like she is playing dress up—then again, I guess at her age she still sort of is.
My Verdict: Well played Miss Fanning. If you lose the shoes (or at least a few inches of them) you nailed it.
Greene was looking red hot at last night’s premiere in a body hugging scarlet gown complete with train and cutout shoulder detailing. She certainly won’t be mistaken for her sprightly character Alice in this number, but there is something Elviraesque about the silhouette. I’m not sure if Greene has a stylist or not, but if she does they should be fired immediately for making this young vibrant starlet look so dated. What’s up with the pageant hair with extensions et al? Greene’s bob would have been a nice modern touch with this dress. The gold clutch is so predictable, the oversized hoops are bordering on tacky and we get it Ashley, you are sexy, so why not crack a smile? The whole look just is not doing justice to this undeniably beautiful girl.
My verdict: Oh dear Ashley, do a little stylist hiring or firing and try again for Eclipse.
Let's discuss: What do you think of the ladies' red carpet choices? Was Kristen's dress a winner or a loser? Love or hate Dakota's shoes? What do you think of Ashley's big hair? Who was your pick for best dressed last night? Or were you just watching for the boys? We want to hear it all, so sound off about the premiere here.
