Pining Over Pins
Hairdressing 101 has taught us all that bobby pins should be hidden to the best of your abilities when creating a glamorous look. But times, they are a changing, and starlets like Diane Kruger and Lauren “LC” Conrad are demonstrating how easily regular old bobby pins can add a hint of intrigue to your look.
Kruger is truly a chameleon when it comes to her hair. Whether she is reinventing the side braid, pin curls or plain Jane straight locks she always adds a twist that makes the look her own—well, that is until we early adapters start following her lead. A long time fan of the bobby pin, a quick Google search will present you with a mélange of Kruger's pin enhanced looks. One of the most impressive uses in my opinion, however, was the addition of a single thick black bobby over her right eye. Generally, I believe that a lady should match her pins to her hair colour (black for brunettes, gold for blonds and copper for red heads), but Kruger’s contrasting choice really makes an impact. Slightly more complicated, but equally enchanting was Kruger’s mock side braid created by vertically placing bobby pins along one side of the hairline (note she’s using the contrasting colour again) and then collecting the rest of her mane into a low side bun. Most recently, Kruger sported what seemed to be a haphazard placement of mini gold pins amongst her elegant loose curls at the Berlin premier of Inglourious Basterds. While I personally like the look, quite a few style critics thought it was far from glorious. That’s not going to stop me from trying to replicate the look this holiday season, though.
Miss Conrad recently used two tone-on-tone pins to anchor her retro wavy updo, demonstrating how something so simple can change your look entirely. Without the pins, it would have been just another pretty, but safe, pinned under look. With them, however, Conrad scores bonus style points. Now I’m not encouraging anyone to go the way of the Christian Dior bobby pin helmet, but I will say that using that extreme runway look as my inspiration, I have taken to wearing a stack of 10 to 15 pins with a deep side part and the complements come rolling in. Proof that rules like hiding bobby pins and less is more are made to be broken; sometimes more really is more.
Let's discuss: Think showing your pins is sloppy or sexy? Will you be stocking up on bobbys this season? What's your favourite look of these four? Know any other nifty bobby tricks?

Hey, this is hannah banana.:)
I agree with not trying to hid the bobby pins.
In some cases it is needed, when you have around 20 to keep your hair up, but they tend to add a great touch to the hairstyle.
I personally have always liked to use bobby pins, i never really try to hid them, and it still looks great.
Pretty soon they will be in style and they will come in every colour imaginable :D
