Feeling Blue? The Celebs at The SAG Awards Sure Were

The Screen Actors Guild Awards definitely fly a little under the radar compared to its bigger, bolder award show counterparts, but the red carpet this year was anything but dull. I wasn’t expecting everyone to pull out all the glamourous stops for the show (I didn't actually even know the show was on this past weekend, honestly. Talk about a lack of publicity!) but ladies and gents alike were dressed to the nines on Saturday night. The most noteworthy red carpet trend was definitely the lack or classic black and the serious presence of saturated colours for gowns. Even more interesting than the fuchsias, purples and teals were the reoccurring shades of indigo and navy. See what I’m talking about after the jump.

SAG Indigo

Both Drew Barrymore and Glee’s Jane Lynch opted for full-length, voluminous gowns in deep navy. Barrymore is certainly one to watch on the red carpet this awards season (she did win the coveted Meghan Jessiman Living Legend Award at the Golden Globes last week after all) and this structured two-tiered Monique Lhuillier fully lived up to my expectations. I especially loved her voluminous 60’s inspired updo.

The real shocker for me, though, was how stunning Lynch looked at the event. I got so used to seeing her in her Sue Sylvester track suits all the time, I had no idea that there was a babe lurking under all that polyester!

Sandra Bullock did opt for classic black, and looked like a tall drink of water in it, but she looked far from basic with the addition of beaded cobalt leaf detailing around the neckline. Even Justin Timberlake jumped on the blue bandwagon by adding a ruffled dusty blue shirt to his Dolce & Gabbana tuxedo. Alec Baldwin also threw on an indigo tie for the occasion.

I must say I am loving this unexpectedly dominating trend, but what do you think? Does a red carpet event call for a more classic colour palette, or are you on board with all the blue? Think Justin could have spiffed it up a little? Love or hate Sandra’s blue detailing? As shocked as I am by Jane Lynch’s babedom? Is Drew’s dress right on the money or a little too out there for your taste? More importantly, did anyone watch the show on Saturday night? Did you even know it was on? Discuss!
