Orange You Glad I Didn’t Say Banana Was The New “It” Colour?

First things first: I never understood that joke. I mean, orange really does not sound close enough to aren’t for it to be effective. All right, now that I’ve gotten that off my chest, on to the fashion element of this post. By now, all you trendsters have likely heard Pantone’s prediction that turquoise will be THE colour of spring 2010, but last week I noticed a serious drift towards the warmer side of the colour spectrum. No, I’m not talking about ravishing reds—scarlet gowns I could get behind—but not since the early nineties have I seen this much orange making the rounds. And frankly, I’m none too pleased about it.

A Little Tough Love For Ashley Olsen

It used to be that we only had one Olsen to worry about; Mary-Kate was clearly the wild child, dressing like a bag lady, battling eating disorders and generally not giving a flying hoot what anyone thought about it. Ashley, on the other hand, could usually be counted on to bring a little refinement, stability and class to the pair. Lately, though, it’s Ashley that has been causing me distress on the red carpet. Sure, Mary-Kate still looks a hot-mess most of the time, but I have come to expect/accept it as part of her charm. Ashley, unfortunately, just doesn't pull off the avant-garde crazy look quite as well....

Smoky Eyes Made Simple

Last week I showed you Murale makeup artist, Emily Benson’s, method for creating the ultimate smoky eye, but in all honesty, it was a rather involved process. Thank goodness that two of my favourite cosmetic companies have come up with pretty and perfect packages that provide us with everything we need—including step-by-step instructions—to master the look on our own. Check out my picks for the best kits after the jump.

Amy Adams: Pretty and Prego

I have never been a pregnant lady so I don’t have first hand knowledge of this subject, but I do feel as a style commentator and society watcher in general I can give some credit where credit is due. I don’t want to say that all the prego ladies out there like to use those maternity months as a little breather from all things fashion and beauty related, but I have seen some pretty unfortunate ensembles and rough looking complexions out and about during the second and third trimesters (I do not blame you ladies, you’ve got much more important/troubling things going on). It is somewhat impressive to me, then, that the lovely Amy Adams has really been stepping her style up during this beautiful time in her life. Check her out after the jump.

Feeling Blue? The Celebs at The SAG Awards Sure Were

The Screen Actors Guild Awards definitely fly a little under the radar compared to its bigger, bolder award show counterparts, but the red carpet this year was anything but dull. I wasn’t expecting everyone to pull out all the glamourous stops for the show (I didn't actually even know the show was on this past weekend, honestly. Talk about a lack of publicity!) but ladies and gents alike were dressed to the nines on Saturday night. The most noteworthy red carpet trend was definitely the lack or classic black and the serious presence of saturated colours for gowns. Even more interesting than the fuchsias, purples and teals were the reoccurring shades of indigo and navy. See what I’m talking about after the jump.

Creating a smoky eye is likely one of the most intimidating makeup missions a girl can tackle. The results of a successfully accomplishing the look, however, are undeniably sexy and well worth a bit of extra effort. Heidi-Hoe?

We are all well aware that Heidi Montag and her husband, The Prince of Darkness, oh wait I’m sorry, Spencer Pratt, have done some pretty questionable things in the name of publicity. In fact, by now I suspect we are all pretty used to their staged photo shoots, staged pregnancy scares and staged “music videos”. What I was not expecting from Montag, however, was People magazine’s cover story revealing that the 23-year-old had undergone 10 plastic surgeries in one shot this November, leaving her looking like a slightly trannylicious/blowup doll version of her former self…

Why I like to shop solo

What bothers you most about shopping with other people? Would you rather have people around for their opinions, or not? Do you get annoyed by having to critique your friend’s fashion choices in the change room, or having to go into stores you aren’t interested in?

Are You Buying What Megan Fox Is Selling?

Bid farewell to the bodacious David Beckham and that wife of his, as last week Armani posted the first shots of Megan Fox and replacement footballer, Cristiano Ronaldo, doing their part to keep the sex-factor alive and well in the 2010 Emporio Armani underwear campaigns, on the brands Facebook page. The shots are unabashedly sexy—something that has come to be expected in high-end campaigns—but it makes me wonder if the citizens of the fashion-marketing world are giving any thought to the likability of the celebs they select to rep their brands?
