Smoky Eyes Made Simple

Last week I showed you Murale makeup artist, Emily Benson’s, method for creating the ultimate smoky eye, but in all honesty, it was a rather involved process. Thank goodness that two of my favourite cosmetic companies have come up with pretty and perfect packages that provide us with everything we need—including step-by-step instructions—to master the look on our own. Check out my picks for the best kits after the jump.

The most common beauty question I get asked is how to create a smoky eye at home. I won’t lie, all that blending and layering can be a little tedious and involved. For those ladies that aren’t as confident in their makeup prowess, it is an understandably intimidating beauty feat. With these palettes by Benefit and Sephora, however, getting the sultry bad girl look is practically a no brainer.

BenefitsmokineyesBenefit Smokin’ Eyes

With three eyeshadows, a miniature liner, shadow and angled brushes, brow bone highlighter, tweezers and Benefit’s signature brow zing, the Smokin’ Eyes palette is stocked with every tool necessary to create “after hours” eyes. Best of all though, are the illustrated instructions walking you through the sometimes-complicated process. $44. At Holt Renfrew, Sephora, Murale and Shoppers Drug Mart Beauty Boutiques.

Sephora Smokey Eye Sephora Smoky Eye Palette

This value pack is the secret weapon for any girl on the go. Available in classic blacks or sultry browns it is equipped with four coordinating shadows, pint-sized liner and mascara, applicators, mirror and explanations simple enough for a smoky eye virgin. Just keep in mind; with or without a kit, this look is still all about the blending! $49. At Sephora locations. 1-877-SEPHORA.

Let’s discuss: Have you already mastered the smoky eye or are these kits a potential lifesaver? Are you already a fan of one of these (or maybe another brands) kits? Tried one and not been able to follow the directions? Have a review of a different smoky product? We want to hear all about it.
