Adventures In Online Shopping

Buying without trying is a risky business. In certain situations, however, (like say, when I live in Calgary, and my beloved Anthropologie is nowhere to be found) a girl has got to do what a girl has to do. I recently fell head over heels for a slightly retro, multi-coloured silk dress on the Anthropologie site. This love was so deep that I was willing to shell out some pretty major coin (shipping and duty from the states are nothing to scoff at) site unseen and place my very first online clothing order.

033004_038_b Along with the dress, I also chose a short-sleeved silk blouse with a whimsical parachute print, a pair of weathered black brogues and laser printed lace tights. Have I mentioned how much I adore Anthro? I will say that I was a little bit stressed about how long it took for the delivery to arrive—again, it’s a Canadian/US thing—but the moment I received the doorknocker I practically skipped down the street to collect my goodies. I was mentally prepared to send pieces back if they weren’t what I had invisioned, but I was beyond pleased with both the quality of the products and the fit. Granted, I chose styles that I knew generally work on my body shape, but I was pretty skeptical about whether things would be the same in the “real world” as they had appeared online.

My first online clothing shopping experience was a hit—excellent news considering my passion for clothing that isn’t available in Calgary. I’m curious about your experiences.

Let’s discuss: Do you shop online a lot? What are your favourite sites? Any horror stories about lost merchandise, poor fit or quality or problems with returns to share? Still hesitant about shopping online? What’s stopping you? Sound off below!
