Are Your Clothes Giving Guys The Wrong Vibe?
It’s no secret that men and women generally have a different understanding of fashion. What a woman finds attractive and alluring (perhaps something they would consider wearing on a first date) a man will take one look at and write the lady off as high maintenance and self-indulgent. When we women watch Sex and the City, we are ogling Carrie’s sometimes over the top fashion choices while men are thinking "is this woman on some serious drugs?" Millions of women revere her as a style icon while most real men wouldn’t look twice at her—unless it was to point and laugh...
The Daily Mail’s Liz Jones recently got a rude
awakening when she met up with a fellow who gave her the once over and described her look by saying,
“It's French, it's designer, it's expensive and it means you're probably going
to be a complete pain in the arse. Your shoes are too high and clumpy, your bag
too big and heavy - I just know that I will be asked to carry it at some stage;
either that or it will bash me in the leg - and none of what you have on says
'carefree' to me." He even noted that her handbag required its own
seat. Let's be honest, Jones is not alone—Chanel does not belong on the floor.
Here Jones was thinking she was looking mighty fine and this guy took her down a few notches with a few brutally honest words. There was no way he would ever consider dating her if she was dressed in her usual fashion—he made that quite clear.
Jones continued her article with a list of eleven items of clothing that she has found to be despised by the average man. Harem pants, jumpsuits and overly eccentric hair accessories I can see baffling a dude with their overly trendy vibe. However, Jones also notes that skinny jeans with ballet flats, bold prints, gloppy lip gloss, statement necklaces and socks are also serious offenders. What, pray tell, is so high maintenance about ballet flats? I understand a guy being a bit perplexed about skyscraper heels—I mean, yes they look great, but walking is a rather important aspect of life. But ballet flats? Really? As for the socks comment, I just don’t even know what to say about that?
Let’s discuss: Do you ever base your clothing choices on what a guy would think of your look? Or do you just wear whatever you like and hope
that your guy (or your future guy) will accept your style for what it is? What do you think about the items on
Jones’ list? Will you now be avoiding socks during your quest to find Mr.
Right?If you are going somewhere that you could potentially meet a man will you dress differently then when you are going out with the girls? Maybe you usually dress to impress other women? Sound off below!
