Does Your Style Change When You Travel?
The who’s who of Hollywood migrated to Miami this past weekend for the Super Bowl, but at times it seemed more like an unofficial fashion week than a celebration of athleticism. Granted, it is usually pretty sweltering down in Florida, but it seemed to me that ladies were pulling out all the stops when it came to flashing skin in South Beach. It’s not really surprising that in a city known for it’s sexy women, celebrities felt like showing off a bit. Kim Kardashian is not exactly known for her demure style, but she was really pushing the extremes of short and tight (not to mention nude, which is such a hot trend right now) on Saturday night. So what about us regular ladies? Does your style morph when you visit a new city?
When I was cleaning out my closet a couple months ago, I
came across a bunch of clothing I had bought when I was in Australia and
New Zealand. While I was down there, I remember admiring the innate street
style that every Aussi and Kiwi girl possessed, sending all my Lulu Lemon and
backpacking-appropriate clothing back home and fashioning a more Aussicentric
wardrobe. Looking at the clothes now, I can’t imagine wearing such short
hemlines and crazy prints here in Canada. They just wouldn’t fly—even during our warmest months.
I’ve never been to Miami, but I can imagine the appeal of
being able to dress as the sexiest version of yourself for a few days. There is a certain freedom in visiting
a new place. Not only can you be whomever you want, but you can dress however
that version of yourself would. Dressing like a sex kitten would just look
awkward in a city like Calgary, but in Miami, you would just be another smokin’
woman.
Let’s discuss: Does your style change when you are in a new
place? Do you travel light so you can adopt the local style as your own? Been
to Miami? Were you tempted to hike up your hemlines while you were there?
