Fringe Benefits
There’s no denying that bangs are hot right now. Just this
past weekend I had two friends ask me to give them the royal fringe treatment.
Though I wouldn’t necessarily endorse an amateur chop for a first timer, (I
once forced my father to cut my bangs and let’s just say there may have been a
bowl involved and, as a result, I became very well acquainted with hats) I do
understand the sudden urge to change up your look—especially with all the great
celebrity fringe inspiration that’s been flying around lately.
As tempting as it is to embrace bangs, sometimes they are a
little tricky to pull off. Careful consideration needs to be given to ones face
shape, hair texture and quite frankly, ones lifestyle. I personally have a
fairly serious cowlick on my hairline, so when I opt for bangs I need to be
willing to commit some time to styling them. If I’m in a bit of a lazy beauty
phase, it is definitely beneficial to let them grow out and opt for the side
sweep.
Last week, the always stunning, Malin Akerman, debuted a new set of
wispy bangs and I can’t quite decide whether or not they are her best look? Akerman doesn’t have the smallest forehead, but she’s not really in need
of serious coverage either. While I think she made the right choice by avoiding
the blunt bang brigade, there is something about this feathery fringe that
doesn’t sit quite right with me. A little too Tinkerbellesque perhaps?
What do you think of Akerman’s new fringe? Think she was
sexier sans bangs? Who do you think bangs work best on? Are you a member of the
fringe club or have you had them in the past? Do you opt for blunt, side swept
or feathered? Think they are overplayed and avoid them all together? Have a
horror story about a DIY bang trim? Or even an unfortunate hairdresser incident (even the pros sometimes underestimate the wet to dry hair shrinkage)? Discuss!
