Do you get your hair blown out?

A few years ago, when I was working at a women’s magazine, the beauty editor said she thought someone should open up blow-out places that were like nail salons – cheap and quick and the kind of place you could stop in between haircuts for a quick style fix without an appointment. It’s too bad she didn’t invest in such a business because in the last couple of years, it seems blow-out salons have taken off.

Now, when I was little, blowouts were something my grandmother got (every Wednesday afternoon, to be exact). I’m pretty handy with a round-brush myself, so it’s not something I’ve been inclined to do before, but yesterday, I got “blown” courtesy of Matthew at Hair on the Avenue in Toronto. And I have to say, it’s not a bad way to take some of the craziness out of getting ready for a big night out (in this case a party for the CBC Literary Awards) during the week. I sweat easily, especially when I’m stressed and rushing (that’s my fun confession for today – what’s yours?), and steaming up my bathroom to wash my hair and then having to dry it in a hurry sometimes makes my getting ready efforts end up a little on the soggy – I mean, glowy – side. It was kind of nice to go out with sleek, shiny hair minus the work… Plus, the scalp massage/shampoo and time in the chair were a pretty good way to put the work day behind me and get in the mood to go out.

Do you get blow-outs – if so, for every day, or just for big events? What’s your go-to night hairstyle? Mine is down and straight with my layers all fun and flipped out.

Have a great weekend!
