Giving A Little Fashion Credit Where It’s Due

I know a lot of ladies have strong feelings about her, but I genuinely like Kristen Stewart. She is not, however, someone I would consider to have an innate sense of style. In fact, during her greasy mullet, tied up t-shirt and ill-fitting jeans phase I would say she was subscribing to an anti-style—and not in the “I don’t give a damn, but still look impossibly cool” way.  Over the last couple weeks, however, KStew seemed to be going through a bit of a ladylike transformation—she even washed her hair and traded in her Converse for heels! See what I’m talking about after the jump.

Granted, the girl still needs to work on her posture, but these recent ensembles are light years ahead of her normal style statements. KStew even cracked a few authentic smiles for the camera; that’s one accessory we really are not used to seeing on her. The premier of The Yellow Hankerchief was just the start of Stewart’s style hot streak, but her Azzaro graffiti dress, with its simple shape and bedazzled chain detailing, is easily one of my favourite looks on her—seriously, just look at those legs!

I feel like there was a bit of a fit issue happening with the white Chanel number Stewart wore to the BAFTA awards (with RPatz on her arm) and the white shoes were definitely a misstep, but the detailing of the couture number is undeniably stunning and I was pleasantly surprised by how nice this uber pale gal looked in white in the dead of winter. She didn't hit it out of the ballpark, here, but later that evening Stewart added a black boyfriend blazer and the chic factor went up tenfold.

Showing a tad more skin than usual in a corseted Pucci dress, Stewart maintained her signature edge at the Elle Style Awards in London. I have to say that I prefer her with a bit of a rocker vibe, as the girly looks she occasionally tries just make her seem even more uncomfortable than usual. This look struck the perfect balance between sexy and classy and the choice of charcoal over black is certainly refreshing.

Finally, at last weeks Burberry fashion show (also in London) Stewart looked impressively fierce decked out in the label. It’s not just the ultra cool look of her understated blouse, knotted mini, and satin topcoat that make Stewart standout in the fashion crowd, but also her ferocious smoky eye and perfect pink/nude lips. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen her look this together—or comfortable posing for the cameras come to think of it. Could our little girl finally be growing out of her awkward phase, or is there some stylish medicine in the water across the pond?

Let’s discuss: What do you think of Kristen’s new look? Vast improvement or are you missing her usual homage to Joan Jett? Which of these ensembles is your favourite? Think she can keep it up or is this just the work of a good European stylist? One thing is for sure; I can’t wait to see what she wears to the Oscars this Sunday. Sound off about KStew’s style (new and old) below!
