Is The Shorts Suit Short On Function?
With the dead of winter (fingers crossed) behind us, the
spring trends are going to start popping up left and right. One of the
strongest trends from last spring was the shorts suit and it will undoubtedly
be reoccurring as the weather continues to warm. The question I have though, is
where the shorts suit is actually a viable wardrobe option? Yes, the look was
all over the runways and the glossies, but in the real world where are short
shorts and a slouchy blazer the most appropriate attire?
While technically, some credit should be given for the fact that it is a suit, the truth of the matter is that a lot of the shorts in
these suits are substantially shorter than what would be deemed appropriate in
any office. Yes, there are offices (mine included) where almost anything goes,
but I don’t know many professional women that would feel comfortable showing
that much leg in the work place. I don’t see many women wandering around the
office in mini skirts, do you? If you are lucky enough to work in a place that
is casual enough to accept this look, why would you feel compelled to wear a
suit at all? Wouldn’t jeans be the automatic default?
The situations in which I can see the shorts suit working
are few and far between, but what do you think? Did you embrace the short suit
last spring/summer? Where and how do you wear it? Think the shorts suit is just
a ridiculous style proposition better left on the runways and red carpets? Does
anyone actually own one? What do you think the potential for day-to-day wear is
with this look? Discuss!
