Ummm…WTF Was J.Lo Thinking?

For the last few weeks, I have to say I have been loving the way Jennifer Lopez has been looking on her promotional tour for The Back-Up Plan. From her colourful casual day dresses on morning show appearances, to the return of her flawless glowing makeup (courtesy of Scott Barnes) to her nod to old-school glamour at the L.A. premiere, it was as if we were witnessing the return of a style icon. That was until she turned up at the UK screening looking like this….

The City Vs. The Hills: Which Wardrobe Would You Raid?

Admittedly, I was excited that this past Tuesday marked the start of the final season of The Hills, but it was last night’s premier of The City that really got my heart racing. It’s not that the reveal of Heidi Montag’s horrifying new face and the ridiculously over dramatic antics of the L.A. set weren’t enough to put a little pep in my step for a while, but since the exit of Lauren Conrad something just seems to be missing from the show….

Who knew that Monday was the night of the week most likely for celebs to pull out the glamorous big guns on the red carpet? That is exactly what happened at the L.A. premiere of Iron Man 2 earlier this week and while there were a couple of missteps, for the most part ladies like Gwyneth Paltrow, Scarlett Johansson and Leslie Bibb were doing their best impressions of A-list movie stars. Check them out and make sure to say who you thinks looked the best after the jump.

You Ask We Answer: How To Grow Out Your Bangs Gracefully

We get a lot of questions here at styleswept, from what label makes the sweaters Josh Hartnett wore in the film Lucky Number Slevin to the pros and cons of highlighting ones hair. Though we don’t have the answer to all of them (I just don’t know about those darn sweaters!), we do read them all and from time to time find an expert to answer them for you! Last week I caught up with styleswept’s hair guru, Vancouver based hair stylist Carolynne Collyer, to get the answer to one reader’s hair conundrum just in time for the start of wedding season! If You've got a fashion or beauty question of your own feel free to leave it in the comments field and you just might be the next lucky reader to warrant expert advice.

Vanity Insanity: Study Finds Tanning Addictive

With all the spring break and “end of uni” trips that happen in April and the warm weather finally starting to hit Canada, it’s easy to get taken off guard and get a sunburn while making the best of the warmer days. For the uber fair folks like myself the instinct to lather up in sunscreen is pretty strong, but I have friends that rarely ever touch the stuff. Frankly, their cavalier behaviour makes me worry for them, but it’s my pals that are especially fond of the tanning beds that I really need to be concerned about it seems. We all know that tanning is bad for us, but a new study released last week in the Archives of Dermatology has now found that the behaviour is also highly addictive. So not only are they exposing themselves to cancer causing rays, but they could also be battling a serious addiction!

Insider beauty secret: Baby skin care products

Live-Clean-Baby-Bar-Soap--- Over the years, I’ve read a few mentions of beauty editors and celebs who swear by baby beauty products for their own use. And while the idea of using soaps and lotions geared to infants makes sense on a logical level (baby skin is notoriously thin and sensitive; my skin gets dry and irritated faster than you can say “binky” – and did I mention that moisturizer makes me break out?), I never got around to trying any – half because I never make it anywhere near the baby product aisle at the drugstore and half because I’m a born skeptic.

But when the press kit for the Live Clean Baby line crossed my desk a couple of weeks back, it didn’t for a second cross my mind to pass the moisturizing bar soaps on to my sister, who has a two-year-old and another on the way, or to any of my friends with babes at home… I couldn’t wait to try it on my own face.

The verdict?

Joan Collins Hates Jeans: Thinks You Should Too!

After the Ritz hotel chain recently decided to amend their dress codes to allow dressy denim, Joan Collins, took it upon herself to write an open letter expressing her dismay and disgust about the European hotel chain allowing their standards to drop for the British paper, The Daily Mail. Collins writes, "The Ritz, both in London and Paris, has been one of the last bastions of a civilized, elegant dress code, and even though it has specified that the jeans must be 'very, very smart' and no trainers are allowed, I can see standards going in the direction of all respectable establishments – downhill." The unabashed snobbery continues after the jump…

Amanda Seyfried Pulls A Red Carpet Switcheroo

When I saw the photos of Amanda Seyfried at the Mother and Child premiere this week the first thing that struck me as odd about the beauty’s look was that she was working a serious French braid. I’m not talking about a few front sections being pulled back a la Lauren Conrad here, but rather a massive single braid running the length of her head—add a bow clip and it could have been the same do my mom used to force upon me in the second grade….

Would You Use A Virtual Stylist?

Last week, Glamour magazine along with Like.com launched a new iPhone app allowing people to pose their style dilemmas to a team of eight stylists and receive solutions/suggestions in real time. “Ask a Stylist” is apparently available 24 hours a day, (though I somehow doubt that the team at the Wall Street Journal tried ordering up advice at 4 a.m.) giving you the option of  Glamour trained” expertise rather than that of your mother or BFF next time you can’t decide what to wear on your hot date.
