Royal Wedding Fans Sure Know How To Dress

You don’t have to be in the royal family, or even in the UK, to sport a stunning fascinator, fancy hairband or hat. Nearly 300 people put on their finest outfits to attend a royal wedding themed taping of The Marilyn Show in Toronto this morning.

Although chilly in the outdoor tent, I felt perfectly dressed in my black dress, white cardigan and kitten heel pumps, but I was nowhere near as creative or fun as the majority of the show’s audience.

Of course, none of us could look as stunning as Kate Middleton in a dress designed by Sarah Burton, creative director of Alexander McQueen, that was “ to die for”, in the words of Jeanne Beker. But I did spot plenty of cute party dresses and headpieces. Here’s some of what I saw.

Street Style: Royal Wedding Tea Party Outfits

Pinkies up! We head over to High Tea at The Windsor Arms Hotel in Toronto in celebration of The Royal Wedding. The event was hosted by one of our favourite bloggers, Jen McNeely of She Does the City and Windows 7. Toronto's fashion and lifestyle blogging community wore their most elegant outfits for scarfing down scones and crustless sandwiches. Sometimes the best part of going to a tea party is getting dressed for one. Here is some of the fun street style that we spotted...

Would You Buy Your Wedding Dress Online? I Did

I remember finding my dream wedding dress and not being able to stomach the $3000 price tag. It may not seem like a lot of money to some people, but as a newly engaged and broke University grad, $3000 was almost the price of my last tuition bill. With a wedding to pay for, honeymoon costs looming and the possibility of buying our first home – I just couldn’t do it. So I decided to get a little creative and find a good compromise. Once you get your heart set on a dress and a style, it’s hard to get that idea out of your head. So what did I do?

The DIY Spa Manicure

Nails looking raggedy and polish getting chipped? No time to run out for a manicure? I'm generally low-maintenance when it comes to my nails and only really bother to get them done for special occasions. However, one day I was giving a client presentation and pointing out different parts of the contract and noticed how terrible I had let my nails get. Clearly not the end of the world, but kind of embarrassing when you're trying to look polished and professional. My solution? To look into a fast and easy do-it-yourself spa manicure for the busy girl or guy on the go. Whether you're looking to save some cash or trying to maintain your nails in-between spa visits, check out these tips from Brenda Belo, an OPI Guest Artist.

Our HOT Swimwear Picks!

I was thinking about my swimwear collection lately and how long I seem to hold on to my bathing suits. I mean, it's not like I wear them everyday, so they seem to last a good two to three years. So I figure it's a good investment to buy a piece that fits well and that I love. The purge rules apply to bathing suits you no longer wear or don't fit any more. Throw them away and start fresh. You don't want to hold on to something that makes you feel bad. I usually bring three with me on vacation and after spotting the hot picks for this post, I think I need to refresh my collection!

Trend Alert! Coloured Denim

When I think of candy-coloured denim, I think of the '80s. When it was all about really weird washes (hello acid wash!) and crazy neon colours. Well guess what? Coloured denim is one of the hottest trends for spring and an easy way to add some brightness to your wardrobe. Yes, it's back - but not in a cheesy way. The look is more subtle with soft semi-faded washes of pastel shades hitting the retail racks. We previewed a few pieces from Gap's spring 2011 collection and here's what they look like...

The Haircut I Will Never Get Again

Everyone has had one hideous haircut that they will never get again. I have two. The first one was a short pixie cut I got when I was eight years old that my Mom talked me into. Why was she such a fan? She had the same one.

I looked like a boy and it was not cute in that Tinkerbelle sort of way. It’s one of those haircuts that you look back on, *shudder*, blame your Mother about and burn the picture of. Luckily, very little evidence exists, so I couldn’t possibly post it on a national website like this one. It grew out like a Muppet and was not something I could ever re-live. What's the second haircut that I will never get again?

Why I Love Mineral Foundation

Remember back in the day when it was all about tinted moisturizer and liquid foundation? Then mineral makeup busted out on the scene and all of a sudden every makeup label started to carry their own line to keep up with the craze. For me, it all started with Bare Escentuals SPF 15 mineral powder foundation. The product claims a “silky, soft texture (that) looks like a powder, but feels like a cream and buffs on beautifully.” I really liked the sheer texture that didn’t feel greasy and heavy on my skin – especially in the summer. I was converted immediately and the SPF coverage is a definite plus!

Etsy Style Finds

If you haven't heard about Etsy yet, you've probably saved yourself a ton of money so far. Once you log on to this addictive shopping site for handmade items like clothing, jewelery, vintage items and edibles - you may never stop. I have personally scored one-of-a-kind throw pillows, a modern felt iPad case and colourful headbands recently. I find that everything is in line with retail pricing and I love the idea of supporting the craftsperson directly. Items can range from $1 to over $37,000 at each 'shop' - so there really is something for every budget. Here are a few of our style finds from Etsy...
