If Print Is Dead, Carine Roitfeld Didn't Get The Memo

20110921_zaf_z19_440
Speculation surrounding the next career move for Carine Roitfeld has come to a close as the ex-Paris Vogue Editor-In-Chief announced this week that she will be starting her very own magazine. That's right, on paper.

With a rash of fashion blogs and websites to choose from, perhaps the best way for Roitfeld to stand out is by sticking with ink, but there is a reason why everyone has taken to the web and her resistance to the digital wave may be her undoing.

How Much Are You Willing To Pay For A Haircut?

IStock_000016993164XSmall

I've confessed that I'm a haircut slacker here before, but it's that time again and I still seem to be dragging my feet. It's not that I don't love to get my haircut - shampoo, head massage, pampering, yes puh-lease - it's just that the services are so expensive.

Vladimir Putin's Possible Facelift Has Me Pondering The Stigma Of Male Plastic Surgery

20110924_zaf_k50_016 20060101_jes_x01_330
A projection of Putin at a party conference this weekend (left), against a shot from 2006. He certainly does seem to be aging in reverse, doesn't he?

Did Vladimir Putin get a facelift? That question has been buzzing around the internet, particularly on the British gossip sites, for the last 24 hours. Photos seem to indicate that the Russian prime minister has in fact had a nip and tuck, although I would argue that he's just gotten his eyes done, not the full treatment.

The media is saying that his alleged lift has had a negative effect and he looks "odd". I think he just looks well-rested, but Putin is facing re-election, so perhaps he added a little campaign pep to his look with the facelift, cheek-fillers, brow-lift, eye lift, and Botox that some people are suggesting. Either way, why does it surprise us when men choose plastic surgery?

Travel Chic: What To Wear On The Plane

IStock_000017364600XSmall
I've just returned from a lovely long weekend in Calgary and in light of upcoming travel for us all (they say Thanksgiving is busier than Christmas), I thought I would share a few pointers for how to dress for the flight.

Style Crush: Jessica Chastain

20110811_nnf_kb5_099 20110904_kza_ka2_435 20110911_zaf_cj4_086

Rarely does a new starlet burst onto the scene and wow both the movie critics and the fashion critics, but Jessica Chastain has certainly made a strong splash.

At only thirty years of age, Chastain has already worked alongside some of the best, including: Brad Pitt and Sean Penn in The Tree of Life, Helen Mirren in The Debt, and Al Pacino in Wilde Salome. It helps that she's gorgeous, charming, and a phenomenal actress (some are calling her the next Meryl Streep), but the girl knows how to dress, too.

Karlie Kloss Posed Topless, So What's The Big Deal?

Model Karlie Kloss

Everyone is buzzing about a portrait of über-hot model Karlie Kloss posing nearly-nude in the October issue of Allure magazine. The 19-year-old was shot by famed photographer Mario Testino and the pics are soft, sexy, and beautiful. I'm sorry, but where's the scandal?

Hollywood's Hot Red Hair Colour Not So Popular At The Sperm Bank

20110920_kza_km0_134Ryan Gosling and a redheaded Emma Stone on the set of Gangster Squad.

Emma Stone's latest shade of red, may be wooing co-star Ryan Gosling on the set of their new flick (at least his character, anyway), but it turns out rouge may not be the way to a man's heart…or a woman's womb. The world's largest sperm bank, Cryos International, has reportedly stopped accepting donations from redheads since supply is well in excess of demand.

Birth Control, The Sun, Hyperpigmentation, And How To Beat It

Dermalogica
A few years ago, I returned home from Rio de Janeiro with what I thought to be a cluster of freckles under my right eye. As my sun kissed skin regained its ghostly shade, however, the stubborn spot remained. The following summer another popped up, this time under my left eye, so I decided it was time for my first trip to the dermatologist.

Yep, I see what you mean, she said. It's hyperpigmentation and it's happening here, here, and here, too, she added. I freaked out a little bit, especially when she pointed to what can only be referred to as my moustache area—not exactly a spot I was looking to darken. She went on to tell me that it was a result of sun exposure combined with my oral contraceptive. There were bleaching agents she could prescribe, but unless I came off of the pill, it would only reoccur.

Embrace Your Flaws

Padma Lakshmi proudly displaying her scar at the Emmy Awards.

As women, we are our own harshest critics. We can spot every little imperfection right down to the tiniest bump in the nose. As such, when external factors like burns and scars come into play, it's that much harder to see beyond the mark.

That's why I was thrilled to see Padma Lakshmi proudly embrace her signature scar at the Emmy Awards this weekend. The gorgeous Top Chef host has a 7-inch vertical line running up her right arm with a smooth surface and sheen. The scar almost gave off a metallic effect to match her gold gown, perfectly illustrating how unexpectedly beautiful individuality can be.

American Apparel's Hole Digs A Little Deeper With Plus-Sized Model Contest

IStock_000016046194XSmall
In some über-bizarre attempt at appearing progressive, American Apparel recently held a contest for "bootyful" plus-sized models to celebrate an expanded size range, but Nancy Upton called their bluff. The plus-sized 24-year-old striped down to her skivvies and cozied up to a bottle of chocolate sauce on her mom's kitchen floor while her friend Shannon Skloss took pics. Then Upton jumped in the backyard pool with a chicken wing and a cherry pie, euphorically chowing down on the food and wiping it on her face.
