Do You Get Dressed For The Cameras?

Wenn5730394

Remember when you used to get dressed in the morning, head to work, have dinner, and back to bed again without ever finding yourself in front of a camera lens? I know, I barely do either. Because nowadays cameras don't just hound celebrities, they follow regular folks "just like us", snapping us head-to-toe for street style blogs and Instagram feeds alike. For the younger generation, it's even worse. Their iPhones and Androids capture the entire day, from what's for breakfast to every single moment shared with their BF.

But my question is: If life is a photo shoot, is it effecting what we wear? My hypothesis: Very much so. Fashion enthusiast extraordinaire, Anna Dello Russo, spoke to The Telegraph recently about her relationship with street style photography (the extravagant dresser is papped on the regular) and she told them: "If I do not get photographed, I will be miserable."

Celebrity Nail Art Inspiration

20120626_zaf_mg2_058   6664ade2bff211e1af7612313813f8e8_6

Nail art inspiration can come from anywhere. If you keep your eyes peeled - from fabric to animals - there are interesting patterns and colour schemes all around us. And thanks to handy tools like Quo by Orly's Dotter Duo Nail Art Tool, it's super easy to try these looks out on your nails at home.

The possibilities are truly endless, and to show you one example, here's a pic of Salma Hayek at the Savages premiere in Hollywood last night. When I saw how her emerald dress popped against that neon poster, I knew that it would make a great combo for my nails. I also felt like the embellishment on her dress gave it a mermaid effect, so with those two things in mind, I set out to create Salma-inspired nails.

More Skin Than Clothing At The Menswear Shows

Versace Spring 2013 at left and Dolce & Gabbana Spring 2013 at right.

The Spring 2013 Menswear Collections are underway in Milan and considering that fashion is the goal at these things, there sure doesn't seem to be very much of it going around. Instead, the general theme is skin with Dolce & Gabbana models going topless and Versace's boys hitting the catwalk pants-free.

Beauty Fix: Ombré Hair For Summer

Photo

I often brag about my virginal locks, so last week when I mentioned colour to my brilliant hair stylist, Ana Zelic, she was shocked. I've been feeling a bit bored, I explained, and thought summer might be a great time to lighten up. So we pulled  Trifon, her colourist co-worker at Salon Dew, over for a consult.

There are are few things I insisted on:  low-maintenance, subtlety, and an overall natural appearance. Trifon instantly decided that ombré was the way to go.

"But am I late to the trend?", I asked. "Trends never last this long," Trifon reminded me, noting that this technique will likely become a timeless go-to because it suits so many people's needs.

YSL Gets A Name Change

Wenn2763081
Hedi Slimane was appointed Creative Director of YSL in March 2012.

Don't mess with an iconic brand. Just don't. We've seen it tried, tested and failed many times, like when GAP changed its logo (for a week) and when Radio Shack became The Shack. The bottom line? It never works.

Well, now one of the most iconic brands of all time is taking a gamble with its coveted initials: YSL. At the hands of newly appointed creative director Hedi Slimane, the brand will now be known as Saint Laurent Paris or simply SLP.

Francesca Eastwood Isn't The First To Set Fire To A Birkin

Screen Shot 2012-06-20 at 5.29.00 PM

Last month everyone was up in arms over photographer Tyler Shields and his girlfriend Francesca Eastwood, daughter of Clint, setting fire to a Birkin in the name of art. With the coveted Hermès purse ringing in at $100,000 and so many people struggling for a dollar, it's easy to see the reason for upset. Add to that the fact that she's a privileged Hollywood daughter and, well, let's just say the girl received some threats.

Flash to this morning's news in the UK Telegraph, however, and it looks like the hostility may have been misdirected. As it turns out Birkins go up in flames all the time and it's Hermes who's lighting the match.

The Key To Keeping Cool This Summer

As the mercury rises across the country, bringing with it hot humid air, it's a great time for a refresher on the best ways to beat the heat. In my opinion, it really all comes down to one thing: ventilation. Forget tight, synthetic fabrics and go for loose, natural knits that breathe. The best way to score this cooling combination is a dress. Whether it's a long maxi or an above-the-knee number, dresses are light, airy and über-comfortable, especially when compared to sweat-inducing denim shorts.

Nail Polish For Dogs. No, Really.

Screen Shot 2012-06-18 at 7.51.42 PM   Neon_Pawdicure_PensWS-e1323919471711

Growing up I lived next to the loveliest older couple. They always had dogs. When I was really young, they had a German Shepard who was best friends with our cat. (Go figure.) Then there was Heidi the snarky Scottish Terrier for the majority of my youth. After I went away to university, a white poodle showed up on the other side of the fence and I couldn't help but notice her pink toe nails. Yes, my neighbour painted her poodle's toes. I suppose the Shepard and Terrier would have pawed at the cement all day in revolt, but this white fluffy thing seemed to rather enjoy her prissy claws.
