Ryan Lochte Gives His Olympic Smile The Diamond Treatment

20120728_kza_kp7_1017

You would think gold medalists get to do as they please at the Olympic Games, but U.S. swimmer Ryan Lochte was denied a fashion statement this weekend. Before climbing the podium to accept his country's first gold, the 400IM winner was told by an International Olympic Committee official that he could not wear his custom red, white, and blue grill. Yep, apparently grills are still a thing.

Olympic Nail Art

Image005

CND Shellac is dressing up athletes' nails at the Olympic Villages over the next 14 days and their blinged out tips provided some inspiration for a DIY version. It's hardly as medal-worthy as the CND's style (above), but for a quick and easy ode to the Games, it'll certainly do.

What you'll need: Clear or matte white polish; red, yellow, blue, green, and black polishes; Quo by Orly Detailer Brush; and top coat.

Record Breaking September Issues

IStock_000019276643XSmall

Canadian postal workers may want to invest in some weight lifting belts before the September fashion magazines roll out next week. The publishing industry is reporting record - and back - breaking book sizes for the most talked about issue of the year. The page boost comes in thanks to reinvigorated ad sales, which have been shaky ever since the recession.

It Pays To Be Stylish For Kate Middleton

Kate-middleton-20120719_kza_kw1_007

A few weeks back the internet gawked over Kate Middleton's £35,000 clothing bill thus far this year. The British press in particular was quick to judge such a seemingly frivolous expense. Ahem, they might want to ask Queen Lizzy to tally up her diamonds… Anyhow, adding fuel to that fire, a new report was release this week claiming that Future Queen Kate was given a £300,000 bonus from Buckingham Palace for simply allowing her wedding dress to be placed on public display last year.

The Louis Vuitton Handgun That LV Has Nothing To Do With

DSC_0d16-620x414

Sometimes I wonder if copyright lawsuits are getting a little out of hand. After all, who can really claim a font or colour all to themselves? But then an issue pops up that is so ultimately violating that I believe only the court of law can truly bring it justice.

A company called Machine Guns Vegas has newly released the Louis Vuitton grip handgun—three days after the largest mass shooting in US history. This is gross and, rightfully, the real LV wants nothing to do with it.

The Facelift Bungee Offers A Cheap Alternative For Tautness

The number one reason I refuse to get plastic surgery is its permanency. Once you nip and tuck, the effects are irreversible and I can't help but think that - indecisive as I am - I would end up liking original me better, with no ability to dial back.

Well now there is a product that offers the look of a facelift, without the permanency or the mega price tag. The Facelift Bungee - yeah, you heard me - is being toted as a viable alternative to surgery as it pulls the skin into a smoother, more lifted position, without you ever having to go under the knife. The pulley contraption is essentially two combs at either end of a rubber band which you affix to two small braids on either temple with your hair pinned up. Once the hair is released, the rubber band is completely covered and only your newly taut complexion is left for all to see. (If you have short hair, I guess you're on your own.)

Retoucher Claims 100% Of Fashion Images Are Fake

IStock_000004117234XSmall

We know all too well that Photoshop is an integral part of fashion imagery. I have a good friend who makes the brushes of Photoshop seem like magic wands. She can turn any shot into perfection and does so for many retailers and magazines, which I won't name here. I will say, however, that having seen her work, I was not surprised to read a piece posted on Buzzfeed by a professional retoucher, who also chose not to be named.

IStock_000020785667XSmall

The retail game is about to change in Canada: popular American department store Nordstrom will soon be making its debut north of the border. The long rumoured move was confirmed by The Globe and Mail yesterday citing four former Sears locations as its new home.

Your Bra May Be Older Than You Think

Middle_ages_bra_02963870_AP_ARCHEOLOGICAL INSTITUTE OF THE UNIVERSITY OF INNSBRUCK

If there's one design that has stood the test of time, it's the bra. Madonna may have coned it and Victoria's Secret may have bejewelled it, but when all is said and done, two cups and two straps have kept them girls in their place for the last hundred years…or so we thought.

As it turns out, this timeless contraption has far more longevity than previously believed. Archaeologists from the University of Innsbruck have found four linen bras in an Austrian castle which are over 600 years old.

Olympic Modelling!

Wenn3863871

I can see it now: 10 points for posture, 5 points for pace, and 10 points for creativity—Olympic Modelling! Long legged beauties battling it out for gold! Imagine?

While my (somewhat facetious) hope for a new Olympic category may seem far-fetched, the London Olympics have managed to find a way to include their beloved top models in the upcoming games. It's being reported that Brit It girls Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell, Lily Cole, and Georgia May Jagger have all been asked by the Olympics committee to take part in the closing ceremonies next month.  Their participation is supposed to include a catwalk strut to David Bowie's "Rebel Rebel", a patriotic act said to be earning them each one pound.
