Princess Diana's Top 3 Style Moments

It's hard to look back on Princess Diana's tragic passing and not be saddened by the thought of "what could have been." Everyone loved her—even those who opposed the Royals, in fact perhaps those even more so after she became the one that got away. Diana signified patience, grace, beauty, and innocence, even when her not-so-innocent secrets became exposed, and much like the woman she was, her wardrobe exercised that exact same balance.

Diana's style was classic and conservative, but often groundbreaking in her ability to push the limits of how a demure princess should dress. Some of her more sexy styles would pass as reserved nowadays, but in the Eighties, her brand of choker necklaces with bare shoulders and décolletage was quite revolutionary, especially for a Royal.

Here are our top three style moments from the life of Diana:

Diana arrived at a Vanity Fair party in London in this black Versace dress to the sound of jaws dropping around the world. It was her first foray into sexier styles and that off-the-shoulder neckline became a style signature. She also sported a longer version of this look with that same pearl choker for her famous dance with John Travolta at the White House in 1985.

Beauty Dare: The Dark Lip

Screen Shot 2012-08-30 at 12.02.32 AM

Although not officially, the Labour Day long weekend tends to signify the end of summer. Along with a seasonal closet flip (goodbye short shorts, hello woolies), this is a great time of year to give your beauty drawer an overhaul. But before you toss those deep crimson tones, think twice, because beauty is taking a dark turn this fall.

Victoria's Got A Secret And It's Heading To Court

IStock_000016853393XSmall

Although everyone is talking about John Galliano's rumoured lawsuit against Dior, there is another legal battle under way in the land of fashion with a very interesting twist.

Victoria's Secret is under fire for allegedly misleading their own customers. If that sounds confusing, it is. Their former hosiery supplier, Zephrys, claims that the lingerie giant has continued to use an image of Zephyrs product on the outside of its packaging, despite VS having terminated the contract.

Kanye Empties Kim's Kloset

"Psst! Your dress is hideous."

On Sunday's episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians, Kim's new beau, Kanye West, decided his "baby" was in need of a wardrobe overhaul. So he and his stylist arrived at Kim's palatial estate in L.A. and the entire Kardashian viewership got to watch her closet empty before her near-teary eyes. It was kind of hilarious.

Imagine if your partner told you that 90% of what you owned needed to go to Goodwill, though? Not hilarious. I would cry, too. On the flip side, however, I can't help but see Kanye's point—we've all dated someone whose style needed improvement—it's just that by vetoing all of Kim's belongings on cable TV, he overlooked the delicacy of the situation. It truly is one that requires tact.

A 3-Second Bun With No Elastic

Like most other Canadians, I spent the weekend soaking up the last bits of summer at the cottage. Mine is on a glorious rock bed which means 54 steps down to the lake and 54 steps back up. Needless to say, I try to bring all of the dock necessities (books, sunscreen, glass of water, etc.) in one trip. But of course, something always gets missed. This weekend, it was my trusty hair tie, and so instead of dragging my body back up the stairs, I swept my hair up into an elastic-less bun.

This is my go-to hair tying method when I'm stuck without a clip and in desperate need of relief from my elbow-length locks. If you too have long hair and a bad memory, here's how to wrap it up in a jam.

STEP 1: Gather the hair into a ponytail, wrapping one hand around the pony and another around the base of the hair.

Taylor Swift Dresses The Part

Screen Shot 2012-08-22 at 3.22.59 PM

Ah summer love! Taylor Swift has been living the dream these last few months, courting young Conor Kennedy, son of Robert Jr., on the east coast Hyannis Port compound synonymous with his famous last name. Even for Canadian gals, this fantasy land seems locked into a time and place of white table settings with lemonade and football games on impossibly green lawns, so for an all-American gal like Taylor with a known penchant for romance, the myth of Camelot is paramount.

This morning I woke up to the following headline in my newsfeed: Christina Hendricks Carries a $23,980 Purse. "Can you believe she just paired it with jeans and a frayed shirt?!" they exclaimed. Yeah, People, I can. And there's one simple reason why.

Here's my headline: Christina Hendricks Didn't Pay For Her $23,980 Purse!

The Michael Phelps Olympic-LV-Fart-Bubble-Fiasco Is Over

Wenn4020635

As if the pressure of winning six more medals and becoming the most decorated Olympian in history weren't enough, the fun didn't stop there for Michael Phelps. The part man-part fish brought the drama out of the water and onto dry land following his London wins.

Thanks to a Louis Vuitton ad featuring Phelps in a bathtub seen across the web the week following his golden run, the Olympic Committee's Rule 40 was called into question, wherein athletes are prohibited from promoting non-official sponsors during the nearly month-long period surrounding the games. Needless to say, Louis Vuitton was not an official Olympic sponsor.

Can Lipstick Lead To Health Problems?

IStock_000018885061XSmall

The fact that there are dangerous chemicals found in makeup is not news, but new research shows that the risks could be even worse than we ever imagined. The concern is especially strong when it comes to lipsticks which contain paragons, methacrylates, lead, and cadmium, since women swallow up to 1.5 kilos of it in their lifetimes. The latest chemical of concern goes by the name of triclosan.
