Beauty Musts You Might Be Forgetting

When life gets busy, it's hard to justify time spent on "frivolous" beauty, but try not to see beauty as such a frivolous thing. In case you thought those products lining the drugstore shelves were just for show, it's not a billion dollar industry for nothin'. So before you let any beauty must-dos fall to the sidelines, here are a few to add to your calendar of events.

BODY EXFOLIATING
A lot of women have improved their face exfoliating practices, but what about the rest of the bod? The same dead skin cells accumulate on the body, causing clogged pores and blemishes. With the current weather change, it's especially important to remove dry skin to reveal new cells underneath. Otherwise you are simply moisturizing old dead cells while the new skin underneath is thirsting for lotion. Exfoliating is also key in areas prone to ingrown hairs like the armpits and groin. My pick: Fresh Brown Sugar Body Polish, available at Sephora.

Every time I wash my makeup brushes and rinse the mountains of shadow and concealer down the drain, I swear I'll be more diligent the next time, yet somehow this simple task always takes a backseat. Experts say brushes should be washed once a week, but I say you're doing well with once every few weeks. It's a quick process you can do in the morning after makeup application, using a bit of warm water and cleanser in the palm of your hand. Don't be rough with the brushes, just build a lather, rinse extra well, and let them dry throughout the day on a towel. Baby wash can be a good substitute for brush cleanser, as well. My pick: Clinique Makeup Brush Cleaner, available at Clinique counters.

FACE MASKS
If you're not getting regular facials, then you should at least be treating your skin to a decadent mask. These rich formulas are an extra dose of goodness for stressed, damaged skin. If you're experiencing breakouts, dehydration, and a general dullness, this healthy hit of antioxidants will revive that healthy glow. My pick: Dermalogica Multivitamin Power Recovery Masque, available at select salons and spas.

Have your say! What beauty musts do you often neglect?
