'Tis The Season For Spanx!

Wenn5958636
I have my first of many holiday parties tonight and with the abundance of appetizers that await over the next 25 days, let's be honest - things are gonna get a little loose around the middle. I'm not alone - we're all faced with bad food and no time for workouts during the holiday season - and yet it's the time of year we are most subjected to tight clothes and tall shoes.

Kate Middleton's Fringe Fail

     20121127_kza_kp2_019  20121127_kza_kp2_024

A few weeks ago, my hairdresser was feeling restless and decided I needed bangs. No, I told her, knowing full-well that they don't suit me. Just a little, she assured, "for that sexy bombshell look", and with a snip, the bomb went off. I hated them instantly and continue to hate them to this day. You see, they are not actually bangs, it's more like a fresh layer of awkward fringe—as though I intentionally submitted myself to the worst stage of bang grow-out possible. You know what I mean? Well Kate Middleton knows what I mean, because the Duchess, too, has fallen victim to a no-fringe fringe layer of weirdness.

Manscaping: How To Maintain Your Movember Moustache

Screen Shot 2012-11-27 at 6.42.20 PM
The top complaints I hear over the month of No(Mo)member come not from the men who grow their moustaches in the name of charity, but from their partners—you know, the ones who have to endure scratchy kisses. I can't blame them, really - who wants to make out with a caterpillar? - but I do find it hard to believe that, with facial hair trending so heavily in men's grooming over the past few years, this Movember crew hasn't yet figured out that it is possible to grow a fine looking 'stache.

I hit up Dustin Granofsky, Senior Barber at Garrison's by the park Barbershop, for a few tips on how to grow a moustache your partner will love well beyond November 30th.

A Word On The Word "Couture"

O.20828Snooki, Jersey Shore's wild child-turned-mother-of-one, has released a new fragrance. It's called Snooki Couture. Yes, you read that correctly: the words Snooki and couture are now sitting side by side.

First of all, what is that even supposed to mean? How can a perfume be couture? Are the bottles stuffed with hand-sewn gowns? Did a couturier custom fit the fragrance particles into the packaging?

Justin Bieber Meets The PM In Overalls

Screen Shot 2012-11-25 at 9.00.36 PM
A friend posted a picture of Justin Bieber shaking hands with Stephen Harper this weekend and, since said friend is a Photoshop junkie, I immediately assumed it was a joke. There was Biebs in a white shirt, unbuckled overalls, and backwards cap with our PM in his usual boring suit. Then later I come to find out - no Photoshop here - joke's on Canada. (And no, I don't mean Harper.)

"I met the Canadian Prime Minister in overalls lol" the 18-year-old pop star later Instragammed to the world. (The pic was taken after he accepted a Diamond Jubilee medal.) "Hahahahah" responded @randowm_gal2001, "Pimp" said @kaiguy123, "Lol overalls haha" summed up @gissel_castro.

The Latest Model In Ford's Men's Division Is A Woman

Women really can do it all—including male modelling. The latest addition to Ford Models' men's division is Casey Legler, a retired Olympic swimmer and artist who also happens to be a woman.

Time magazine exposed Casey's story in an interview filmed at her New York studio. As Casey tells it, a photographer friend was short a model for a spread in Muse magazine and cast Casey in the role. The rest is literally history, as no other female has ever modelled exclusively as a man.

Fast Fashion May Be Killing More Than Your Credit Card

IStock_000021777722XSmall
While visiting with friends over the weekend, someone brought up the fact that Zara CEO Amancio Ortega has eclipsed Warren Buffett to become the third richest man in the world. They were shocked. I shrugged.

Fast fashion is easily one of the most lucrative businesses, particularly when executed similarly to the Zara model. They manufacture highly coveted runway knock-offs for cheap, while monitoring sales to push only the top items and pull any poor performers back to the warehouse. Zara also redefines fast, bringing designer rip-offs into stores before the originals ever make it to their respected sales floors. What's more, they sell it at a reasonable price, although a new Greenpeace campaign posits the question: at what cost?
