AXE Launches Apollo Line With An Out-Of-This-World Opportunity

AXEBuzzFilmStill2
If you already think that AXE grooming products smell out-of-this-world, wait until you get a whiff of their new Apollo line. The range, which includes body wash, 2-in-1 shampoo, deodorant, and the brand's signature body spray, features a fresh, clean new scent from the famed nose of Ann Gottlieb (Dior, Marc Jacobs, Calvin Klein.)

Packaged in sleek black and silver rocket-like bottles, the space-aged launch comes complete with a major blast off. This week from the planetarium at New York's Museum of Natural History, AXE not only revealed the products, but an amazing contest to coincide. In partnership with one of the first men to walk on the moon, Buzz Aldrin, the brand announced that they will be sending 22 guys and/or gals into outer space.

Apollo_family_shot_4C_MAGSpace Expedition Corporation, a commercial space travel company, will be hosting the winners for a 60-minute atmosphere-breaking trip. The space shuttle, appropriately called Lynx as AXE is known in some parts of the world, will travel 103km upwards, breaking the 100km barrier at which one is officially deemed "an astronaut". The company is truly taking their cheeky men-in-uniform marketing to infinity and beyond.

I broke down this new beauty Buzz with the man himself following the N.Y.C. event. Looking seriously sartorial in sleek denim, a skull bracelet, and the coolest double-faced Omega watch I've ever seen, he confessed that even astronauts take fashion and beauty seriously.

"In keeping with the new trends, I don't tuck my shirt in all the time," he told me with a laugh about life here on Earth. As far as men's grooming on the moon, however, Buzz admits that it was pretty limited.

"Pressurized cans in a vacuum are probably not too good a thing - they might blow up on ya - but there were electric razors and straight razors," the Apollo 11 pilot said, adding that sharing such tight quarters requires an extra degree of care when it comes to basic grooming.

"I'm thrilled that AXE is giving young people of today such an extraordinary opportunity to experience some of what I've encountered in space," the 82-year-old says. It's his hope that space travel for everyone is the next frontier in the human experience.

The contest is now open—head to AXEApollo.com for your chance to compete for a spot in the AXE Apollo Space Academy.

Have your say! Forget deserted islands—what three things would you bring along to outer space?
