But Can't We Be Funny And Glamorous?

Reg_600.GGlobes.Amy.Tina.mh.010213
The Golden Globes has released another ad featuring this year's hosts Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. It pictures the brilliantly funny stars dolled up in sequinned gowns, yet revealing Converse sneakers underneath. Haha! "We're not really glamorous—we're funny!" Was the joke, I suppose, but I wonder: why can't we have it all?

It's certainly not the first time costume has lent itself to laughter, but female comedians seem to be heavily embracing it lately in a "fashion is silly" kind of way, and I'm not sure it works.

Lena Dunham - who also tops my fan girl list - caught heavy criticism late last year when she showed up to an HBO event sans-pants. Her response: "I am going to show my thighs every day till I die," not to mention a pantless follow up in this month's V Magazine.

So these women I admire so much are funny, carefree and…I guess relatable is the message. I just never really understood why caring about things like pants and shoes makes anyone any less charming, so the joke is lost on me. But what can I say? I take fashion seriously.

Have your say! Do you think women can be funny and glamorous?
