How To Look Like You've Gained 5 Pounds

Just say no to patterned tights.

#1 IGNORE YOUR WAISTLINE
I blame Britney Spears for this one. Ever since she decided she was not a girl, not yet a woman on a rock formation in the desert wearing über low-rise denim, women started to lose sight of their waistlines. It's not down there—it's way up here! The more you ignore the natural curves of your body and cut them off with belts and waistbands, the more you will create lumps and bumps that leave much to be desired. Create cut lines at the narrowest parts of your body and you will instantly appear more petite.
#2 WEAR PATTERNED TIGHTS
Listen, patterned tights are bad news. Whether striped, polka dotted, or paisley, any pattern stuck directly on your leg will create the optical illusion of width. It's just fact. Even Taylor Swift's legs look slightly less pin-thin when she's wearing decals on them. Stick to dark coloured opaque tights for the most flattering finish.

#3 BUY EVERYTHING ONE SIZE TOO SMALL
This one comes down to psychology. Women often buy clothing based on the size tag, but they should always trust the mirror. Just because you're normally a size 27 jean does not mean that it's a golden rule. Depending on the brand and make you may need to go up or down and no one is looking at the number, save for you. The baggier your clothing is, the smaller your body appears.

Have your say! What look do you find least flattering on the body?
