My Top 5 Picks From GAP's Summer Preview

GAP kindly opened its showroom to a group of select editors for a sneak peek of the Summer 2013 GAP, Old Navy, and Banana Republic collections. We happily took in the display of goodies and - as if we weren't already over-the-top excited for summer - the tie-dye, electric colours, and tribal prints got us seriously jazzed for sunshine.

Here are my top 5 picks for the coming season:

Finding office appropriate looks that won't leave you overheated can be a big challenge in the summer. Luckily this sleeveless vest walks the line between professional and chic, while also keeping you cool. Paired with a patterned skirt and gladiators or wide leg pants and pointed heels, it's a versatile piece for the modern working woman.

Denim is a big story at the GAP this upcoming season. Expect to see lots of printed pieces, as well as classic cuts. Light coloured denim feels so fresh right now, especially in this soft boyfriend-type fit, so these weathered jeans immediately caught my eye. Add two rolls to the hem and they scream of effortless cool.

At Banana Republic, we're going to see lots of colour on colour, as evidenced by this analogous wall. Somehow, because we moved away from matchy-matchy over the seasons, the most predictable look has become unexpected. I love this stretchy belted dress in a solid block of citrus orange as an easy day-to-night transition piece.

When it comes to bathing suits on a budget, Old Navy is tops. This season the swimswear range includes everything from teeny-tiny striped bikinis to kaleidoscope patterned one-pieces. Regardless of your body type and swim-abilities, there is a wallet-friendly suit for you.

Remember shorts?! I all but forgot about them, but they really are a fabulous addition to any summer wardrobe. Whether office-appropriate at knee-length or weekend-ready sitting above mid-thigh, a cute pair of shorts will keep you covered up while you fight the blazing heat. Printed styles, like this pair from GAP, are perfect paired with a white tee and flip-flops, or a silk blouse and wedges.

Have your say! What fashion finds are you after for summer?
