The Best Dark Spot Treatments From Day To Night

Iar-dark-spot-corrector_light-medium_pack-shot   Screen Shot 2013-05-21 at 6.59.17 PM

A myriad of dark spot treatments hit the market this spring, and although the skincare industry cycles through trends just like any other, I think this product push is especially pertinent. I have struggled with hyperpigmentation (also known as dark spots or sun spots) for years and despite many attempts to battle the discolouration and augmenting my SPF to near triple digits, the sun still seems to be doing a number on my skin.

Brace Yourselves—Blue Eyeliner Is Back

S187957_XLARGEBlue eye makeup has been slowly creeping in as a beauty trend over the last few seasons, but as a child of the '80s - when the look was tragically worn with electric vigour - I tried to ignore its return. Thanks to Karl Lagerfeld, however, I must now face the teal.

Testing Drugstore BB Creams

Bb

When the warmer months come around, the last thing you want is to wear a face full of heavy foundation. BB creams are a great alternative as they offer lighter wear, but buildable coverage. But with so many on the market right now, it can be a bit daunting to find the best products out there.

So, a few of the editors at MSN.ca decided to test drive some drugstore BB creams.

Here are our findings:

Your Spring Skin Wardrobe

Just like you have a different wardrobe of clothing for fall/winter and spring/summer, you should have separate wardrobes for each season when it comes to your skincare products.

And with the weather finally getting warmer (is it just me, or did that seem like one of the longest winters ever?), it's time to transition into your spring skincare routine.

"Our skin condition is different from winter to summer," explains Amy Chen, Scientific Communication and Training Leader of SkinCeuticals. "In the winter our skin tends to be drier, and in the summer our face tends to produce more sebum [that oily substance that helps prevent our hair and skin from drying out]. Therefore, it is important to use proper skincare to adapt to different skin conditions."

Not too sure how to build your spring skincare wardrobe? Here are some staples:

Beauty Must-Have: NARS Satin Lip Pencil

NARS Satin Lip Pencil group shot - low resolutionI've never been a big fan of lip gloss. The sticky texture floats pigment around unevenly and takes strands of hair hostage in random gusts of wind. For me, matte lipstick has always been the go-to. It stays in place all day and never fails to provide a rich saturated finish. This time of year, however, that matte dryness doesn't seem to suit, so I start looking for an alternative and did I ever hit the jackpot with the new NARS Satin Lip Pencil.

Test Drive: Rowenta Beauty's Versa Style

Rowenta Beauty Versa Style
Rowenta Beauty Versa Style

We women tend to always want what we don't have -- especially when it comes to hair. While I long for big, voluminous curls, my curly-haired friends envy my pin-straight locks.

And though we can't exactly change our hair permanently, we can manipulate it with styling tools. The only problem? It can get costly to invest in, especially when we require different tools for different hairstyles.

That's where Rowenta Beauty's Versa Style comes in handy. This all-in-one styling tool allows you to create several different hair looks; from sleek and straight, to big bouncy curls and everything in between.

Why Anti-Aging Hair Products Are Worth Your While

IStock_000019517715XSmall

Anti-aging hair products...sounds like a marketing scam, right?

Wrong. Though signs of aging are visible when it comes to our skin, it's not so obvious when it comes to our hair. But as we age, our hair becomes thinner, more brittle and loses its natural suppleness.

High/Low Beauty: Masks

IStock_000017280608XSmall
My skin has been very unhappy lately, so I've been looking for new solutions to cheer it up. With the regular wash, moisturize, and exfoliate routine coming up short, I decided to venture into unchartered territories: masks. And what I found was one very happy complexion.

I spoke to P1M.ca makeup artist and all-around beauty guru Diana Carreiro and was quick to see why masks have so much to offer. Plus, she taught me about a new budget-friendly favourite: the Aspirin mask!

What are the benefits to using a mask?
A mask can help treat all types of skin conditions like aging, dry, oily and dull skin. It can exfoliate, hydrate, and help reverse the signs of aging, or simply provide a healthy dose of vitamins, leaving your skin silky smooth and glowing.

Expert Tips For Fuller Natural Looking Brows

Wenn20010178

Hilary Rhoda and her envy-inducing brows.

I recently started filling in my brows for special occasions, which then translated into evenings, which then turned into a daily must. Why? Because once I saw the benefit of shaping my brows into bolder, more intentional lines, I started to see the dramatic lift to my face overall. Furthermore, strong brows are one of the biggest beauty trends for spring.
