Copycat: Kristen Stewart’s Pretty Pink Spring Look

Hits and Disses may not have thought much of Kristen Stewart’s ensemble at the premier of The Runaways last week (actually, the diss had more to do with KStew’s usual lack of posture than her designer coral confection), but her fresh and youthful rosy makeup sure caught my eye! Not only was it refreshing to see Stewart with such a light-handed and perfectly pink look happening, but this face is the perfect transitional spring look for all us non-superstar ladies too! I caught up with Vancouver makeup artist, Marlayna Pincott to get all the details on how to nail the look at home.

Trend Spotting At The Academy Awards

Well folks, the telecast might have been a complete yawn, but the red carpet gowns were enough to keep me glued to the tube for the full three hours! Time well spent if just to see the risky fashion choices that walked the usually predictable red carpet last night. There were certainly some clear-cut trends being favoured by the lovely and talented starlets at the event, however. Check them out and let us know who you though looked great (and not so great) after the jump.

Is The Shorts Suit Short On Function?

With the dead of winter (fingers crossed) behind us, the spring trends are going to start popping up left and right. One of the strongest trends from last spring was the shorts suit and it will undoubtedly be reoccurring as the weather continues to warm. The question I have though, is where the shorts suit is actually a viable wardrobe option? Yes, the look was all over the runways and the glossies, but in the real world where are short shorts and a slouchy blazer the most appropriate attire?

Giving A Little Fashion Credit Where It’s Due

I know a lot of ladies have strong feelings about her, but I genuinely like Kristen Stewart. She is not, however, someone I would consider to have an innate sense of style. In fact, during her greasy mullet, tied up t-shirt and ill-fitting jeans phase I would say she was subscribing to an anti-style—and not in the “I don’t give a damn, but still look impossibly cool” way.  Over the last couple weeks, however, KStew seemed to be going through a bit of a ladylike transformation—she even washed her hair and traded in her Converse for heels! See what I’m talking about after the jump.

Oprah's Cleaning Out Her Closet And You Could Score Her Castoffs

Cleaning out your makeup bag is one thing, but cleaning out your closet, well, that can just be a plain old nightmare. When your closet is as big as Oprah Winfrey’s, however, that’s when a professional interventionist comes in handy. Luckily for O, she has one on staff at her magazine, otherwise known as Creative Director, Adam Glassman. The queen of daytime has been doing just that (with the help of Glassman, naturally) and you won’t believe what she’s doing with her designer castoffs….

Fringe Benefits

There’s no denying that bangs are hot right now. Just this past weekend I had two friends ask me to give them the royal fringe treatment. Though I wouldn’t necessarily endorse an amateur chop for a first timer, (I once forced my father to cut my bangs and let’s just say there may have been a bowl involved and, as a result, I became very well acquainted with hats) I do understand the sudden urge to change up your look—especially with all the great celebrity fringe inspiration that’s been flying around lately.

So You Think You Can Design?

I understand star power. I get that certain celebrities have a built-in fan base that retailers are interested in tapping into. What I can’t wrap my head around is how and/or why just because someone is famous it's assumed that they are capable of designing a fashion line? In certain cases, like say, Gwen Stefani with L.A.M.B. or Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen with The Row and Elizabeth & James, these stars have proven their talent. These ladies all had an inherent personal style to begin with, though. What about the “celebrities” that couldn’t put an outfit together on their own to save their life? Just because Avril Lavigne can sing, does not mean that she can dance or act and it most certainly doesn’t mean that her name should be slapped onto a clothing line….

If These Shoes Fit (You Still Shouldn’t Wear Them!)

I am a pretty open-minded person when it comes to fashion trends. Sometimes clothes are meant to be wearable and straightforward, sometimes they are meant to be art and sometimes they are meant to be wearable art. The latter is likely what Lady Gaga is going for most of the time, but whether she’s pulling it off or not is a whole other ball of wax we can get into another time. This week in New York, however, I have spotted a trend developing that I can just not stand. In fact, it is so absolutely hideous that I won’t even tolerate it. After I voice my thoughts in this post I will do my very best never to cover anyone who wears this wretched look again. Fashion Week's fugly footwear will not be stepping foot on styleswept again—I'm not sure I could stomach it! See what all the fuss is about after the jump.

Super-High Buns: Super Hot or Super Not?

Back in November we saw the beginning of a new trend in bun placement happening. First there was Rachel Bilson, followed by Cameron Diaz (who personally inspired me to try the look) and then the lovely January Jones at the GQ Man of the Year awards, all moving their updos to the crowns of their heads. This past week, though, there has been a massive surge in super-high bun activity on the fashion scene—sometimes with awesome results and sometimes, well, not so much...

Is The Crop Top Hot or Not?

What goes around certainly comes around in the world of style, but there are a few trends that probably should have been forgotten the first time. Case in point: the crop top. Now, I would never recommend Stephanie Pratt as a style icon, but the girl does have the tendency for jumping on trends—both good and bad. This past weekend she was spotted down in South Beach, with the other cast members of The Hills, sporting a stomach baring black silk number among other horrendous articles of clothing. Makes me wonder if we have this tacky trend to look forward to all spring and summer? Sound off on the crop top and see Pratt’s interpretation after the jump.
