How To Make Your Eyeshadow Stay Put

Img-thing

Suggested retail price is $7.49

I love the look of a slick eyelid. Rather than a matte or glittery finish, it's a modern alternative with seasonless appeal. The only trouble is, I can't seem to find a formula or a technique to keep the colour from creeping into my crease….until my friend, Toronto-based makeup artist Vanessa Jarman, recently shared her secret.

"You've got to set it!" she exclaimed. I followed up for some tips and tricks to share with you and I'm happy to report—it's an easy 2-step process.

Vladimir Putin's Possible Facelift Has Me Pondering The Stigma Of Male Plastic Surgery

20110924_zaf_k50_016 20060101_jes_x01_330
A projection of Putin at a party conference this weekend (left), against a shot from 2006. He certainly does seem to be aging in reverse, doesn't he?

Did Vladimir Putin get a facelift? That question has been buzzing around the internet, particularly on the British gossip sites, for the last 24 hours. Photos seem to indicate that the Russian prime minister has in fact had a nip and tuck, although I would argue that he's just gotten his eyes done, not the full treatment.

The media is saying that his alleged lift has had a negative effect and he looks "odd". I think he just looks well-rested, but Putin is facing re-election, so perhaps he added a little campaign pep to his look with the facelift, cheek-fillers, brow-lift, eye lift, and Botox that some people are suggesting. Either way, why does it surprise us when men choose plastic surgery?

How To Get Pippa Middleton's Natural Beauty Look

Spl274032_009

Forget the new princess—it's all about Pippa Middleton these days. Ever since Kate and William wed it seems her lil' sis has stolen the spotlight. First there was Pippa's coveted behind, then a rumoured tryst with William's baby bro Harry. What's had me admiring the new Brit It girl all this time, however, is her gorgeous glow.

All this talk of Pippa is proof that au naturale is still the chicest way to roll and there's no better time to sport it than summer. I spoke with M.A.C Senior Artist Melissa Gibson for a step-by-step guide to Pippa's girl next door beauty:

Beauty Innovations: Eat and Drink Your Way To Beauty With These Multitaskers

IStock_000016194639XSmall

In the last few years, the beauty industry has gone one of two ways: back to its roots with organic, green, and eco-everything, or back to the future with bizarre innovations straight out of science fiction.

While the former has its infinite benefits, the latter is major cause for intrigue, especially given the latest breakthroughs. These new revelations suggest that topical products may soon be a thing of the past. Before long, you may be eating and drinking your way to a more beautiful you.

Beautiful Brows: How Do You Keep Them Looking Great?

I have a pretty low threshold for pain. Pinch me and I bruise like a peach. Plucking my own eyebrows? Impossible. My eyes start to tear up and I’m just too sensitive over the whole thing that I end up with half-plucked brows. It’s generally a disaster and I have learned not to attempt brow removal on my own. I don’t have big furry brows, which are back in style now. I have a sparse set that does need a bit of attention when the hair starts growing in random spots such as between my brows and above the brow bone. That’s usually when I seek help from a professional.

What's the Difference Between Cheap and Expensive Mascara?

I swear by my pink tube of Maybelline’s Great Lash Mascara. It has never done me wrong and it’s not insanely overpriced. My lashes look dark, defined and not clumpy, which is why Great Lash is my old stand by. So when I was shopping around at my favourite department store last month, I noticed that luxury brand mascara can demand up to $30 a tube. Some of them promote a unique wand shape, others vibrate in your hand while you try not to poke yourself in the eye. It really seems like a new mascara 'invention' comes out every month. I began to wonder, is there really a difference between cheap drugstore mascara and the expensive kind you get at department stores?

The 99 Cent Beauty Buy I Can't Live Without

When a young girl starts to experiment with makeup, there will inevitably be missteps. Thinking back, I can recall some rather unfortunate incidents involving blue eyeshadow, frosted pink lipstick, and on occasion, both simultaneously. What can I say? I am a product of the early '90s esthetic my friends…

I'm Loving It: My New Favourite Makeup Looks For Winter

I honestly cannot tell you what it is that triggers it, but every winter, without fail and almost like clockwork, I am overcome by the urge to radically shake up my makeup routine. Last year I was inexplicably drawn to very dark/very intense lip colours and suddenly became obsessed with growing and filling in my brows for a more polished look. I shouldn’t have really been surprised then when a few weeks ago, seemingly out of left field, I started adopting two entirely new looks into my makeup repertoire. Find out what they are after the jump.

Solid Gold: How To Look Holiday Party Ready In An Instant!

Oh the weather outside….well…it’s weather! But the one redeeming quality of the winter doldrums is it means that the holiday festivities are well under way. I don’t know about you guys, but I am a pretty big fan of getting decked to the nines for holiday fetes and for me, and apparently Miss Katy Perry, that means one thing….

Would You Ever Lighten Your Brows?

For as long as I can remember I have been a seasonal hair dyer. For those of you who aren’t familiar with the term, think of it as a mild form of seasonal affective disorder which really only affects one’s desire to change their hair colour. As a result, I have been like a bird, if you will, living happily in the land of beachy blond locks during the spring and summer and then migrating back to brunette territory for the winter. This is the first year on record that I am giving blond free reign as the mercury drops and it has led to some unanticipated considerations when it comes to the rest of my look…
