Hollywood's Love Affair With Red Hair

20130408_kza_km0_225
When three major actresses dye their hair the same shade, a trend is born. As such, thanks to Rachel McAdams, Megan Fox, and Dianna Agron, redheads are now having a moment. (Okay, the return of Mad Men might also have a little something to do with it too...) Each star made the change over the last few weeks: Megan for a role and presumably the same goes for Dianna, while Rachel - a hair colour chameleon who has worn every shade under the rainbow - reportedly said, "My mother is a redhead, so I thought maybe I could pull it off."

I recently spoke with colourist Cody Alain about the move towards red to see what all the fuss is about:

Test Drive: Rowenta Beauty's Versa Style

Rowenta Beauty Versa Style
Rowenta Beauty Versa Style

We women tend to always want what we don't have -- especially when it comes to hair. While I long for big, voluminous curls, my curly-haired friends envy my pin-straight locks.

And though we can't exactly change our hair permanently, we can manipulate it with styling tools. The only problem? It can get costly to invest in, especially when we require different tools for different hairstyles.

That's where Rowenta Beauty's Versa Style comes in handy. This all-in-one styling tool allows you to create several different hair looks; from sleek and straight, to big bouncy curls and everything in between.

Beards With Benefits

IStock_000010155352XSmall
Facial hair is a polarizing issue. Some love it, while others long for a clean shave. If you're of the latter opinion, however, there is new science suggesting you should rethink your stance and embrace the stubble.

Can A Brand Be Too Big?

Wenn4150348

Gwyneth Paltrow is getting into the blow-dry bar business—this in addition to her cookbooks, lifestyle blog, numerous fashion and accessory design partnerships, tour-de-force in country music, and, oh right, that whole acting thing.

It used to be that people became experts in one thing and worked hard to dominate that field. For example, Christian Louboutin is a shoe designer, period. But now it seems that people are spreading themselves - and their names - awfully thin. Where someone like Jennifer Lopez went for clothing, accessories and the obvious fragrance grab, Gwyneth is going beyond the lifestyle market and looking at every single opportunity to…well, cash in.

Why Anti-Aging Hair Products Are Worth Your While

IStock_000019517715XSmall

Anti-aging hair products...sounds like a marketing scam, right?

Wrong. Though signs of aging are visible when it comes to our skin, it's not so obvious when it comes to our hair. But as we age, our hair becomes thinner, more brittle and loses its natural suppleness.

Wiggin' Out!

20130218_zaf_u99_565
The bowl cut at Mary Katrantzou Fall 2013.

I attended an at-home hair colour launch a few weeks ago and they cleverly included a station of wigs for the writers and editors to test out a new tone. I couldn't bring myself to do it. Perhaps out of embarrassment, but also out of fear. I've had straight brown hair since my ringlets darkened from blond at the age of four and subsequently uncurled. Without this 'do - who would I be? I know now that I was overlooking the fun of it all. Fashion week, however, certainly indulged in exactly that.

Jennifer Lawrence Goes Brunette Following Oscar Win

Screen Shot 2013-02-27 at 8.54.12 PM
The name on everyone's lips right now is Jennifer Lawrence. Having gained popularity in the lead up to Oscar night, her star has now exploded with the Best Actress win. Literally, everyone loves her, and it's easy to see why. Her frank responses to reporters' asinine questions and clumsy self-deprecation make her relatable. She's the real deal.

How To Prevent Burning Off Your Hair With A Curling Iron (Re: Tori Locklear)

By now, you must have seen the viral video of 13-year-old Tori Locklear’s hair tutorial gone wrong.

Not going to lie, I burst out laughing the first time I saw it  - her face is priceless! But then I thought about what I would have done if my hair burnt off while using a curling wand - screamed, cried, thrown the ultimate hissy fit.

How To Maintain Healthy Hair In The Dry Cold Winter

IStock_000019096958XSmall
It has been so bitterly cold these last few days that the skin on my knuckles is starting to crack. I believe I'm also developing some kind of wind burn-related face rash, and the ash on my legs in sloughing off by the handful. Yay winter! And to add insult to injury, the arctic air is also attacking my hair.

This is the first cold season I've faced with colour treated hair in many years and I'm suffering for it. The chemicals, along with abuse from heat tools, are latching on to the harsh weather to create a trifecta of damage. Essentially, my scalp is full of flakes and the ends are frizzier than a pomeranian. I brought these complaints to P&G Beauty and Grooming Scientist Rolanda Johnson Wilkerson and she came back to me with a handful of solutions to help ease my hair woes over the winter months.

Garnier's Olia Revolutionizes At-Home Hair Colouring

P55204-4.60-packEver since my bad date with a box of black hair dye, I've been weary of DIY hair colouring. The plastic cap, crochet hook, bathroom tornado - oh, and my blotchy hair - were enough to make me throw in the dye-stained towel, but recently I learned that at-home hair colouring has come a long way since then.
