Last week, Jennifer Lawrence made a bold move and showed that less is really more by going bare-faced to the premiere of The Great Gatsby in New York. 

The minimal to no-makeup look is a change for Lawrence, who usually opts for smokey eyes and pink lips when hitting the red carpet. But at only 22 years old, why shouldn't Lawrence show off her youthful and flawless complexion? 

I spoke to makeup artist Allana Mizra on how to get the look and let your natural beauty shine:

I've never been a big fan of lip gloss. The sticky texture floats pigment around unevenly and takes strands of hair hostage in random gusts of wind. For me, matte lipstick has always been the go-to. It stays in place all day and never fails to provide a rich saturated finish. This time of year, however, that matte dryness doesn't seem to suit, so I start looking for an alternative and did I ever hit the jackpot with the new NARS Satin Lip Pencil.

Last Thursday, we headed backstage at Andrew Richard Designs to check out Comrags' Fall 2013 collection at The shOws. 

Though beauty on the runway can often be a little bit too crazy for everday, we were pleasantly surprised to see that the Comrags beauty look was something that could be worn in real-life and easily recreated at home. 

"At a lot of shows, the makeup doesn't look too wearable," said Greg Wencel, celebrity makeup artist and CoverGirl makeup pro who created the look. "When we met with [Comrags designers] Judish Corish and Joyce Gunhouse, they wanted to make sure that it was something that made a statement, but something that someone wouldn't be afraid to actually try."

Wencel's inspiration? A youthful, look reminiscent of a Parisian girl or models backstage sipping wine.  

"The Comrags girl has something healthy and organic about her. It's a polished look, that's super pretty and very wearable," he explained.

Yesterday, I had the chance to go to Unilever’s Be Groomed, Be Gorgeous event and got the inside scoop on the latest beauty products and trends, and also learned a few tricks of the trade. The panel of experts included The Beauty Department’s Kristin Ess and Amy Nadine and E!’s Fashion Police co-host, George Kotsiopoulos.

Here are a few tips to make your dark lip look its best:

#1 Dark colours will get stuck in the cracks, leading to a cakey appearance. Avoid build-up by prepping the lips in advance using either an exfoliant or tooth brush to slough off dry skin. Then keep the new skin healthy with a good dose of lip balm.

Although not officially, the Labour Day long weekend tends to signify the end of summer. Along with a seasonal closet flip (goodbye short shorts, hello woolies), this is a great time of year to give your beauty drawer an overhaul. But before you toss those deep crimson tones, think twice, because beauty is taking a dark turn this fall.
