Adventures In Online Shopping

Buying without trying is a risky business. In certain situations, however, (like say, when I live in Calgary, and my beloved Anthropologie is nowhere to be found) a girl has got to do what a girl has to do. I recently fell head over heels for a slightly retro, multi-coloured silk dress on the Anthropologie site. This love was so deep that I was willing to shell out some pretty major coin (shipping and duty from the states are nothing to scoff at) site unseen and place my very first online clothing order.

Why I like to shop solo

What bothers you most about shopping with other people? Would you rather have people around for their opinions, or not? Do you get annoyed by having to critique your friend’s fashion choices in the change room, or having to go into stores you aren’t interested in?

My New Obsession: Fuchsia Lipstick

Ummm…if the colour scheme of this blog is any indication, it is easy to see we are big fans of pink here at styleswept. That particularity is especially prevalent when I hit the makeup counter. No surprise, then, that after Sephora makeup artist, Adi Lando’s, shared her pick for recreating Natalie Portman’s flawless fuchsia pout I had to run out and get the shade for myself…

What Are You Wearing NYE?

I know, I know, the song poses the question, “what are you doing New Year’s Eve,” but that info is far less important than what you will be wearing for those scrambling to make their wardrobe decisions. To me, New Year’s is the one night of the year when you can be your most glamorous self, so that is exactly what I intend to do….

Guest blog: My dance with falsies

I’m not one of those women who gets caught up in every little fashion trend. If it suits my body or my look, I’ll adapt it into my wardrobe. I don’t flip through fashion magazines wishing I looked like the cover model or wanting that figure or that hair. I will admit though, when I see all those mascara commercials, I really covet those lashes.  I’ve tried every kind of mascara, every brand, cheap and not-so-cheap. I still end up with lash envy.

As the holiday season approached, I kept thinking to myself that I’d make the leap. I’d try wearing fake eyelashes. How hard could it be? Find out after the jump.

Flower Power

Spring may still be a long way away, but  with the recent surge in floral accessories hitting the retail landscape you could have fooled me. Don’t misunderstand me here, it is by no means time to start whipping out the Balenciaga inspired floral prints. It is time, however, to start considering the power of pretty petals.

The Fall Wish List Update

My marathon shopping spree at West Edmonton Mall this past weekend can be deemed a great success as many items on my Wishful Thinking List were purchased, along with a handful of carefully considered extras that will keep my shopping addiction at bay for few months—alright, at least a month. Thought I should share some of the finds with you all, just in case you had been hankering for some of the same items, but hadn’t yet found the right ones.

Clothes That Get Compliments

I've spent the last week travelling for work - between various planes, shuttle buses and layovers I've had lots of time to catch up on my fall fashion mags. On the plane home Sunday, it was Glamour's October issue, which featured an article with rules for being a smarter, chicer shopper. One of the questions on their checklist: Would someone who sees me on the street think, she looks great?
