Get The Look: Jennifer Lawrence's Minimal Makeup

Jennifer Lawrence at The Great Gatsby Premiere
Jennifer Lawrence at The Great Gatsby Premiere

Last week, Jennifer Lawrence made a bold move and showed that less is really more by going bare-faced to the premiere of The Great Gatsby in New York.

The minimal to no-makeup look is a change for Lawrence, who usually opts for smokey eyes and pink lips when hitting the red carpet. But at only 22 years old, why shouldn't Lawrence show off her youthful and flawless complexion?

I spoke to makeup artist Allana Mizra on how to get the look and let your natural beauty shine:

Beauty Look We Love: Comrags Fall 2013

Comrags Makeup look

Last Thursday, we headed backstage at Andrew Richard Designs to check out Comrags' Fall 2013 collection at The shOws

Though beauty on the runway can often be a little bit too crazy for everday, we were pleasantly surprised to see that the Comrags beauty look was something that could be worn in real-life and easily recreated at home.

"At a lot of shows, the makeup doesn't look too wearable," said Greg Wencel, celebrity makeup artist and CoverGirl makeup pro who created the look. "When we met with [Comrags designers] Judish Corish and Joyce Gunhouse, they wanted to make sure that it was something that made a statement, but something that someone wouldn't be afraid to actually try."

Wencel's inspiration? A youthful, look reminiscent of a Parisian girl or models backstage sipping wine.

"The Comrags girl has something healthy and organic about her. It's a polished look, that's super pretty and very wearable," he explained.

Wencel gave us a rundown on how to recreate the look at home, using CoverGirl cosmetics:

Mark's Spring/Summer 2012 Preview

With Groundhog Day behind us and spring just around the corner, we are definitely turning our eyes to spring fashion - bright colors, floral prints and, of course, thoughts of warmer days.

Last week, we were able to attend a spring/summer fashion preview for Mark's. As soon as we walked in, we fell in love with the eye-catching colours and super-cute styles.

Here's a closer look at some of our favourites:

The Twenties Are Back And More Stylish Than Ever

0063141044b
Lately I've been having a love affair with the 1920s and it appears I'm not the only one. Woody Allen just gave the decade a major nod in Midnight In Paris; Boardwalk Empire has been heating up the ratings with its look back on the roaring years of prohibition; The Vampire Diaries has been flashing back to the years of flappers and coat tails; Gucci is celebrating its 90th anniversary with G Gucci 1921, a line the revives its classic vintage looks from year one; and Baz Lurhman is finally filming his long awaited remake of The Great Gatsby starring Leonardo DiCaprio with Carey Mulligan as Daisy Buchanan. With the film's release many months away - perhaps even years - it looks like we're just on the cusp of this Twenties revival.

Trending: Cobalt Blue

Two major colours you're about to see tons of this fall are cobalt blue and emerald green. I love them both equally, but my first purchase for fall is blue (the lovely BCBGeneration suede pumps below, in fact), so let's first take a look at my top picks to give your wardrobe the blues, and next week we'll head to the Emerald City!

Red + Pink = Magic, and Other Unexpected Colour Combinations I Love

Spl298054_012

I first took note of red and pink's magical combination when Flare's fashion director (and my style icon) Elizabeth Cabral paired the two colours with gold Doc Martens at Paris Fashion Week. Something about the punchy combo spoke to me, and since I've been noticing it more and more.

Street Style: Metric and The Stills Step Out To Support Emerging Designer Alana Kakia

Alana Ka'Kia, Designer Designer Alana Kakia in a sexy silk dress from her debut Holiday 2011 collection (which is on display behind her), along with a Ka'kia knit necklace, heart pendant by Ludevine, and vintage belt. She, of course, was our best dressed of the night.

If you're in need of a little style inspiration, look no further than your local The Society bash. The Toronto-based culture club (which now has chapters all over North America) is well-known for bringing out the city's sartorial best and this past Tuesday evening was no exception.

It was a celebration of fashion and music for the latest installation of The Society and Absolut ART series. Emerging designer Alana Kakia presented her Ka'kia line with its debut Holiday 2011 collection and Metric's Jimmy Shaw, as well as The Stills' Liam O'Neil and Dave Hamelin, took the stage for an extended instrumental set inspired by the fashion goods.

Street Style: Royal Wedding Tea Party Outfits

Pinkies up! We head over to High Tea at The Windsor Arms Hotel in Toronto in celebration of The Royal Wedding. The event was hosted by one of our favourite bloggers, Jen McNeely of She Does the City and Windows 7. Toronto's fashion and lifestyle blogging community wore their most elegant outfits for scarfing down scones and crustless sandwiches. Sometimes the best part of going to a tea party is getting dressed for one. Here is some of the fun street style that we spotted...

Our HOT Swimwear Picks!

I was thinking about my swimwear collection lately and how long I seem to hold on to my bathing suits. I mean, it's not like I wear them everyday, so they seem to last a good two to three years. So I figure it's a good investment to buy a piece that fits well and that I love. The purge rules apply to bathing suits you no longer wear or don't fit any more. Throw them away and start fresh. You don't want to hold on to something that makes you feel bad. I usually bring three with me on vacation and after spotting the hot picks for this post, I think I need to refresh my collection!
