Is Matching Back In Thanks To Angelina Jolie?

20120115_kza_ka2_1944
The minute Angelina stepped onto the Golden Globes red carpet in a white silk Atelier Versace gown with a cherry red folded collar and matching cherry red lips and clutch, the Twitterverse was convinced that matching is once again chic.

Hot Beauty Trend: Headbands

20120115_kza_kf3_096
As if headbands weren't already enjoying newfound popularity, Sunday night's Golden Globes certainly helped to give them a resounding final push. The truth is, the headband is a bit of an unsung hero. Often dismissed as school girl chic, it doesn't get its proper due. A well-adorned, well-placed headband can be the ultimate in sophistication.

Was That A Red Carpet Or Amateur Hour? Golden Globes Fashion Fails

As you know, I don't like to be mean, but when it comes to celebrities, I think it's fair game. They have all of the money and the means to look their best all of the time—the sheer unfairness of that makes me think it's okay. Between the stylists, limitless budgets and fashion designer BFFs, there's really no excuse. That's why I'm happy to take this opportunity to call out the major fashion failures from last night's Golden Globes.

Honestly, I didn't think anyone looked great - Salma Hayek, Claire Danes, and Julianna Margulies looked pretty, sure; Michelle Williams' vintage headband might have deserved its own statuette (more on this hot accessory tomorrow), but her velvet dress was reminiscent of Grandma's curtains; which is all to say that no one knocked it out of the park. Therefore I get to be mean. Here goes:

Best David Bowie Impression: Tilda Swinton
She's always daring on the red carpet and high five for that, but this risk reaps no rewards. Straight up - Tilda Swinton looks like David Bowie cross-dressing as the mother-of-the-bride. I mean, baby blue satin…really?

Colin Firth's Wife Takes On The Green Carpet Challenge, Round 3

Awards season goes into full swing this weekend with the Golden Globes (airing Sunday night) and while everyone debates who should and will wear what, you can rest assured that one red carpet vet will be draped in green.

Livia Firth, wife of the Academy's current best actor title holder, Colin Firth, has taken on a green carpet challenge for the third year in a row. The challenge is not literal in colour, but refers to her commitment to wear eco-friendly fabrics throughout her husband's tour de force.

Style Crush: Elizabeth Olsen

20111021_kza_kb2_194  20111011_zaf_mg1_013  20110911_kza_kw1_469
From left: every bit a lady in Chanel Couture for the London Film Festival; celebrating Martha Marcy May Marlene in NYC wearing head-to-toe Alexander McQueen; glowing at TIFF in a floral gown by Canadian designer Erdem.

When your big sisters are two of the most recognizable stars in Hollywood, it must be tough to carve your own path. Elizabeth Olsen, however, has managed to step out from the shadow of billionaire twins Mary-Kate and Ashley to forge her own stylish spirit.

Style Crush: Jessica Chastain

20110811_nnf_kb5_099 20110904_kza_ka2_435 20110911_zaf_cj4_086

Rarely does a new starlet burst onto the scene and wow both the movie critics and the fashion critics, but Jessica Chastain has certainly made a strong splash.

At only thirty years of age, Chastain has already worked alongside some of the best, including: Brad Pitt and Sean Penn in The Tree of Life, Helen Mirren in The Debt, and Al Pacino in Wilde Salome. It helps that she's gorgeous, charming, and a phenomenal actress (some are calling her the next Meryl Streep), but the girl knows how to dress, too.

Style Crush: Emma Watson Can Do No Wrong On The Red Carpet

  Spl292221_001  Spl295751_012  Spl296922_008

A trifecta of red carpet perfection as Emma Watson does the rounds for Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Part 2.

A friend emailed me today, subject line "I'm sorry", body "WHY is everyone saying that she is 'stylish'!" with a link to people.com. At the time, my internet connection was a bust (love you Rogers), so when I clicked on the link it took me to a bright blue wireframe with two celebrity names listed as keywords inside: first Emma Watson and second Pippa Middleton. Huh. There's no way she's talking about Emma, right? But just in case, I replied all (there were a few fellow fashion-lovers cc'd) "Do you mean Pippa or Emma Watson? (please say Pippa…)" Response? "Pippa! Emma forever." Phew.

Lite Bright: Is LED Fashion Tacky Or Trendy?

Spl295275_034
Footwear lit up during the Chanel Haute Couture 2011/2012 finale in Paris this week.

Remember those flashing red sneakers that lit up with every step? All the cool kids had them and I really, really wanted a pair of my own. I think back to those sneakers now that LED lights are in fashion, only there's one big difference: this look has long been removed from my wishlist.

Copycat: Rachel Bilson's Peachy-Bronze Glow

You know the old saying, “Women want to be her and men want to be with her”? Well, I'm pretty sure it was coined with Rachel Bilson in mind. There are some women that manage to appeal to both men and women equally and Bilson, with her laid-back girl-next-door vibe, does just that. That doesn’t mean, however, that Bilson can’t turn up the heat when necessary….
