Street Style: AGO Massive Goes For Gold

GP4_1547
The glitterati of Toronto descended on the Art Gallery of Ontario last week for Massive, its annual fund- and ceiling raising event. The party boasted big numbers with a sold out crowd of 1,800 in attendance and even bigger fashions.

Thanks to the evening's theme, "Gold," there was plenty of style fodder in and among the art. Ladies donned metallic sequins and threads with guilded accessories and sparkling makeup, while even the men played nice to the theme with a handful of golden bow-ties throughout the crowd.

It can be tough to find a balance between style and costume for these types of events, so I thought I would point out a few of the ladies who did it best:

Trend To Love: Sneakers

Very few fashion trends scream of comfort, so when there's finally a chic and cozy option to explore, I'm all about it. Here are a few easy ways to indulge in the sneaker trend this season:

THE WEDGE: The wedge sneaker is everywhere right now and no wonder: it offers cushioned support and a lift all at once. Styles range from lace-ups to velcro and one-tone to colour-blocked with embellishments all-over, leaving something for everyone. Paired with skinny jeans and a tee, these shoes can carry you straight from day to night.
MY PICK: Graziana, Chism, and Numata (from left), all available at Aldo.

How To Wear Heels In The Snow

The offending pair of shoes from my uni days.

Back in my university days, I thought the sidewalk was my own personal runway. I'll never forget the day I wore a giant faux fur coat and a pair of stiletto booties to class. Unfortunately for me, this was on a day where we got roughly 15 cm of snow. Needless to say, I had to buy a pair of Sorels in between classes, and my outfit was ruined in the name of safety.

The fashion world on the other hand, chose style over practicality during New York Fashion Week. Though the shows were right in the midst of Nemo, the fashion elite still trekked through the blizzard in heels -- stilettos, wedges, and some even open-toed.

Meet The Newest Fashionista On The Block: Alia Wang

Is it weird that I'm jealous of a three year old? To be fair, she's three-going-on-30 and not only the most adorable child maybe ever, but she has a wardrobe any grown woman would drool over. Chanel bag, check! Snakeskin dress, check! Black Ray-Bans, check! Yep, what we have here is one seriously stylin' toddler.

Do You Get Dressed For The Cameras?

Wenn5730394

Remember when you used to get dressed in the morning, head to work, have dinner, and back to bed again without ever finding yourself in front of a camera lens? I know, I barely do either. Because nowadays cameras don't just hound celebrities, they follow regular folks "just like us", snapping us head-to-toe for street style blogs and Instagram feeds alike. For the younger generation, it's even worse. Their iPhones and Androids capture the entire day, from what's for breakfast to every single moment shared with their BF.

But my question is: If life is a photo shoot, is it effecting what we wear? My hypothesis: Very much so. Fashion enthusiast extraordinaire, Anna Dello Russo, spoke to The Telegraph recently about her relationship with street style photography (the extravagant dresser is papped on the regular) and she told them: "If I do not get photographed, I will be miserable."
