3 Weddings That Require 3 Very Different Dresses—What's A Girl To Wear?

Unlike some of my friends who've been slammed with upwards of 8 weddings this summer (no joke), I've got four on the calendar. However with one down and three to go, I'm having late on-set wardrobe panic. Normally I don't sweat too hard over what to wear to events, and weddings in particular since everyone's eyeing the bride anyhow, but these three remaining fêtes have very specific needs.

If You're Going To Go Braless, There Are Some Rules

IStock_000010806378XSmall

Hot enough for you? Apparently global warming decided to kick it into high gear this summer and as a result I've been pumping the AC, which I normally detest. This weekend, however, I couldn't very well hang indoors - I mean sure, it's sticky, but it's also sunny and I loooove me some sun. So I hit up a patio with some friends in the coolest tube top and skirt combo I could come up with.

Turns out another lovely lady had the same idea—in fact she even had the same tube top. The big difference? While I sweat through my strapless bra, there she sat, nipples out, livin' it up in.

Now before I come off like a prude, I'm really not. I often skip out on a bra and there's no day like a scorcher to do it, but there are a few key rules I always obey:

Is Fashion Moving Too Fast?

IStock_000010927682XSmall

This week I shot behind-the-scenes footage for a fall 2011 fashion campaign. There on the sweaty sidewalk stood our actress in a wool turtleneck with a shearling jacket over top, smiling as her feet swelled in gorgeous leather knee-high boots. One of the crew members looked over at me and said: why do we make these girls wear tank tops in the winter and sweaters in the summer? Clearly this man was no fashion newbie, because his observation is perfectly true.

Every Gal Needs A Great Pair Of Nude Pumps

LDS18990

My go-to nude pumps are from Nicole Ritchie's first footwear collection. This season, I love her House of Harlow 1960 Neil Peeptoe Platforms.

As Kate Middleton travels across our beautiful country, she is perfectly illustrating how one pair of shoes can take you from east to west and back again. The Duchess and her nude patent pumps have been inseparable thus far and I suspect their love affair has only just begun. Why? Because nude pumps rule. Once you add a great pair to your footwear arsenal, you're guaranteed to be reaching for their subtle goodness at every opportunity.

Newlywed Kate Moss Makes Peacock Feathers A Must-Have With Her Galliano Gown

Kate_moss_wedding_00920061_BerettaSims_Rex Features

All eyes were on ultimate stylesetter Kate Moss this past weekend as she wed longtime boyfriend and fellow Brit Jamie Hince. While word had leaked that the gown would be a custom made John Galliano, the design remained a pleasant surprise until she walked the aisle.

With a retro feel, delicate overlays, and stunning embellishment, the supermodel's gown was a complete knockout. No detail was more subtle yet statement-making then the golden peacock feathers streaming up from her hemline, undoubtedly setting off what is to become the summer's hottest new trend.

Here are a few of my favourite picks for adding a peacock touch to your wardrobe:

Size Matters: How To Get The Best Fit From Your Clothes

IStock_000012938721XSmall

My closet holds every size from XXS to XXL. Most of my t-shirts double as shifts, I rarely wear the same size jeans from day to day, and when it comes to dresses—forget about it!—my waist is way smaller than my hips, so unless I want to be swimming around the top or acquiring those oh-so-tacky fabric folds across the hipline, I take size whatever to the alterations lady.

What does this have to do with you? I'm illustrating my wardrobe range so that you can feel better about honing yours in a similar fashion. As of late I'm seeing far, far too many girls sacrificing fit and comfort for the size on the label.  Let me lend you the best advice I have to give when it comes to getting the best fit: the smaller your clothes, the bigger you look.

Do you wear a sun hat? I don’t (but these might convince me)

Ever since I turned 30, I’ve been much better about sunscreen than I used to be. I may not have slathered on the baby oil and used foil reflectors like my sun-happy parents did back in the day, but in my carefree youth, I wore SPF 8, which now sounds just as crazy. I graduated to 15 sometime around the end of high school and to 30 in my mid-20s. Lately I’ve been all about the 50, and where I used to only apply sunscreen when I was (ahem) sunbathing, I now use it most days.

My Secret Spanx Alternative

American Apparel's Scoop Back Tank Pencil Dress, available at American Apparel stores across Canada.

Last summer I bought an adorable printed skirt. It's short and flimsy, but it also cost $20, so who am I to complain? Even when it flew up under my armpits the first time I wore it out on a barely-breezy day, I still figured it was my own fault for cheaping out on lining. After the second, third, and fourth showing of my panties, however, I decided to give the skimpy skirt a permanent holiday in my bottom drawer.

But as the weather started to perk up again this season and the bright neon print of my poor little skirt became trendier than ever, I decided to give it another go. Only this time, not without protection.

My New Favourite Bronzer

Stila_bronzer

Hello sun! Hello sundress! At least that's what I said when I woke up yesterday morning and slipped on a brand new ballerina-style bodiced-dress covered in oversized  beige and blush florals. I was feeling oh-so-Chloé until I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror. Some ghostly gal had stolen my dress! Oh wait, that was me.
